BOARD MEETING
The Library Board of the city of Wylie met in regular session on September 11, 2000
at the Library at 7:00 p.m. The attendees were:
Grace Morrison
Adrian Sanchez
Gerry Whitt
Dan Hendrix
Mary Starnes
1. Approval of the Minutes.
Minutes were approved as read from the August 14, 2000, meeting.
2. Discuss the Monthly Report.
The August circulation increased 19% over the same period last year. This
increase is a result of Kirby street reopening and changing the circulation
periods back to three weeks for books and AV with 7 days for videos. In
addition, the website hits broke a record with 3,021 hits for the month.
3. Discuss the Library Advocacy Plan and State Funding.
Three library board members attended a Library Advocacy workshop in
August. One of the major discussions was library advocacy. TLA has
requested that all libraries fill out a worksheet on how they would spend state
aid funds. The Library Board did this worksheet during the meeting and it is
attached.
4. Discuss Library Card Month Activities and Dog Month Activities.
The Library will host a reception to encourage people to get library cards on
September 26. Library board members volunteered to assist with hosting the
event.
Mignon and Clinky will be visiting all of the elementary schools on September
14 to promote library card month. Hopefully, this will increase the number of
library card registrations and circulation for September.
5. Discuss Library Long Range Plan Status.
The Library Director met with the City Manager, Asst. City Manager, and
consultants to discuss the long range plan. There will be a board presentation
by the consultants on October 9, 2000. The plan will be distributed after a
final proofing.
NEW BUSINESS
The 4B budget will be proposed for approval at the September 12 City Council meeting.
Allen Morris from the WISD contacted Mignon regarding a joint project in trying to get Barbara
Bush to come to Wylie. He would like for the Library to compile a packet of information that
shows the Library promotes family literacy. The Board was supportive of this idea and would
like to support the program if we are successful in getting Barbara Bush to commit to coming
to Wylie.
