The Library broke a record for January circulation with over 8,000 checkouts.
Other statistics are increasing too.
3. Discuss Legislative Day
Shirley, Grace, and Mignon attended library legislative day in Austin on
February 7, 2001. They visited three aides for congressmen to encourage
support for direct aid for public libraries. If the Library receives direct aid, it
could mean over $24,000 for the Library. Mignon encouraged all board
members to email the senate finance committee and house appropriations
committee and request their support. Email addresses for all committee
members and a sample email will be sent to board and friends on February
13, 2001.

Shirley asked if there was any news on the federal mandate for filtering. Mignon explained
that detailed guidelines on filtering requirements will be released in April. Libraries will have
one year to decide on a filter and implement changes. This mandate affects all libraries that
receive federal funding. The library receives E-rate funding and a small portion of federal
funds through NETLS.
