07-09-2001 (Library) Minutes RITA & TRUETT SMITH LIBRARY BOARD
BOARD MEETING
The Library Board of the city of Wylie met in regular session on July 9, 2001
at the Library. The attendees were:
Liz Allen
Shirley Burnett
Pauline Akin
Dan Hendrix
1. Approval of the Minutes.
Minutes were approved as read from the June 11, 2001, meeting.
2. Discuss Monthly and Quarterly Report.
The library broke another record with the highest circulation in the history of
the library in the month of June. (13, 218 checkouts) The quarter statistics
increased too. Other services are increasing too such as story time
attendance, Internet usage, database usage, and reference questions.
3. Discuss Summer Reading Club.
Programs have been attended well this year and performers have been doing
a great job. There was a % increase in June attendance over last year the
same month. Clifford was a big hit. He visited the library to promote
registration.
4. Discuss Children's Internet Protection Act.
The American Library Association's (ALA) legal council confirmed that libraries
receiving only telecom discounts did not need to comply with CIPA
requirements, although certification is required through FORM 486. This form
has not been posted on the SLD website. The ruling for libraries receiving
LSTA funding is still pending which probably means there is still a chance we
will have to filter.
NEW BUSINESS
OLD BUSINESS
The book appraiser assessed the materials donated by Pat Reihn. There was an
article in the paper about the donations and an article in the library's newsletter.
Dan Hendrix brought up the Greeting Card Fundraiser. The Board has volunteered
to help the Friends group with the fundraiser this year. The plans are to start early
and make this a campaign for the Library. The fundraiser was very successful a few
years ago and a revitalization is needed to make the fundraiser a success again.
