04-08-2002 (Library) Minutes RITA & TRUETT SMITH LIBRARY BOARD
BOARD MEETING
The Library Board of the City of Wylie met in regular session on April 8, 2002,
at the Municipal Complex. The attendees were:
Pauline Akin
Grace Morrison
Adrian Sanchez
Shirley Burnett
Dan Hendrix
Liz Allen
1. Approval of the Minutes.
Minutes were approved as read from the March 11, 2002, meeting.
2. Discuss Monthly Report and Quarterly Report.
The monthly statistics were down slightly due to the snow day and the Easter
Holiday falling earlier than it usual. Last year's monthly figures for March 2001
were a record breaker for statistics with over 10,000 checkouts. All other
statistics continue to increase. The first half of the year had significant
increases over the same time period last year.
3. Discuss Library Statistical Data
Mignon prepared statistical graphs that demonstrate the increase in website
usage, circulation, in-house Internet usage, and the staffing level. The staffing
level hasn't increased much compared to the increase in library usage. The
Board requested a comparative study on statistics of libraries similar to
Wylie's. In addition, Dan Hendrix requested a history of bond elections in
cities that have successful bond elections for libraries. Mignon told the Board
that is vitally important to go through the City Manager and not go directly to
Council for political issues. The City Manager prefers to meet with the Board
as a group rather than having meetings with individuals. This is in the best
interest of the Library and all parties involved.
NEW BUSINESS
Cinco De Mayo is scheduled for May 4. Flyers were distributed to each board
member.
