06-25-2002 (Library) Minutes RITA & TRUETT SMITH LIBRARY BOARD
BOARD MEETING
The Library Board of the City of Wylie met in special called meeting on June 25, 2002,
at the Library. The attendees were:
Grace Morrison
Adrian Sanchez
Shirley Burnett
Liz Allen
Kathy Spillyards
ACTION ITEMS
1. Discuss and Approve the Revised Library Internet Policy to ensure it
meets NCIPA requirements necessary to receive ERATE funding.
Mignon prepared a memo for the Board outlining the requirements of
the ERATE. Additions were made as needed to meet the requirements
and bolded. Two changes were made that do not relate to the CIPA
regulations. They are a clarification on email access. Patrons can
access web-based email, but the library will not setup individual email
addresses for patrons. The other change relates to patron
authentication. Patrons can sign-in at the computer with their library
card. This is a time saver for staff and the conventional way that most
libraries are handling patron access of the Internet. New users are
required to come to the circulation desk, read the policy and sign the
release form.
Grace Morrison made a motion to approve the revised policy. Kathy
Spillyards seconded the motion. The motion was approved 5-0.
NEW BUSINESS
Mignon bragged on the Parks Department for the job they did in planting the
flowers. The Library will have seasonal flowers next fiscal year. The Board
was very pleased about this. It makes the Library building look aesthetically
pleasing and inviting to patrons.
There are currently 450 (approximately) registrations for Summer Reading
Club. There were 310 registrations last year.
