The Library Board of the City of Wylie met in regular session on August 15 at the Library.
1. Call to Order
Grace Morrison called the Library Board meeting to order.
Attendees were:

2. Read and approve minutes from last meeting.
Minutes were corrected to"Jim Griffin" as the citizen participant from the July meeting.
The minutes were approved for the July meeting.
3. Library Update
Rachel Orozco, Library Director, gave an update on library activities.
• 14,087 items checked out; 14,657 items checked in; 230 new borrowers; 725 total
cards processed
• Summer Reading Club was a big success. Tricia will give statistics at the next
meeting.
Grace Morrison explained that the Library had three children's program sessions. The
overflow required that people wait outside the library to keep in line with the fire code.
Grace Morrison explained to new members that the Smith Library won the Library of
Excellence Award with the Texas Municipal League.
4. Citizen's Bond Proposal
Grace Morrison informed the Library Board about the upcoming bond and the role of the
Citizen's Bond Review Committee. Grace explained that the library's portion of the bond
is $8.1 million.
The Board talked about what they would like to see in a new library. They agreed that
they wanted the library to be the center of the community with various programs offered.
Grace explained that she would speak in favor of the 25,000 square foot building with the
shell. Grace gave some examples of how a meeting room can be divided up to
accommodate various programs.
Grace explained that the Library Board members can go out and speak in favor of the
bond program. The City will make a power point presentation and have various
community members make presentations.
