06-16-2016 (Public Arts Advisory) Minutes Public Arts Advisory Board CITY OF WYLIE —i Minutes Regular Meeting June 16, 2016 — 6:00 p.m. Wylie Municipal Complex Council Chambers/Conference Room 300 Country Club Road, Bldg. 100 CALL TO ORDER The Public Arts Advisory Board meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by Chair Lynn Grimes. Board members present included: Lynn Grimes, Nancy Pierce, Vice Chair Anita Jones, and Lisa Green. Board members Michelle Pugh, Brooke Lopez and Margaret Boyd were absent. Staff present included: Carole Ehrlich, board liaison and Public Information Officer Craig Kelly. DISCUSSION ITEMS • Update and discussion regarding the Semi-Finalists for the 2016 CIP Thoroughfare Public Art Projects and Jury Process. (C. Ehrlich, PAAB Liaison- Board) Staff Comments PAAB liaison Ehrlich reported the Thoroughfare CIP Selection Committee had chosen 4 semi-finalists for Sites#1 and#2. She explained the committee felt the best approach was to allow one artist to complete both sites to keep relatability to the two entrances to the walking trails. The four semi-finalists are Jim Gullicci, Michael Clapper, Michael Szabo, and the Tom Latka team. Site#3 located on East Brown near the Disc Golf Park had three semi- finalists chosen by the committee. They are John Davis, Adrian Litman and Howard Kalish. These artists will attend a two day visit to the City on June 27th and 28th to visit the art sites, tour the community including the downtown area and ask questions of staff, selection committee members and attend a community input meeting to be held at 7:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers the evening of June 27th. This meeting is open to the public to comment on the three art sites. Ehrlich asked that all PAAB members attend this meeting. The artists will then return to their studios to complete proposals for the specific art sites they were chosen to compete in. The proposals will be presented to the Selection Panel, PAAB and the public on August 25th at 7:00 p.m. also in the City Council Chambers. Ehrlich, PAAB Liaison) Staff Comments PAAB liaisons Ehrlich reported the City had received approximately 76 applications for the Bluegrass on Ballard Arts and Crafts in the Park event to be held July 2nd. She reminded members of the work schedule they had signed up to cover. Members signed up for the following times. Morning 6:30 am-11:30 pm Afternoon Noon-7:00 pm Lynn Grimes Morning Lisa Green Afternoon Michelle Pugh Morning Anita Jones Afternoon Brooke Lopez Morning Nancy Pierce Afternoon Carole Ehrlich Morning Volunteer to provide morning coffee was Lynn Grimes and Brooke Lopez volunteered to bring additional help to assist with the event during the morning hours when vendors are setting up. REGULAR AGENDA 1. Consider and act upon approval of the Public Arts Advisory Board minutes from May 19, 2016 Regular Meeting (C. Ehrlich, PAAB Liaison) Board Action A motion was made by board member Green, seconded by board member Jones to approve the minutes of the May 19, 2016 Regular Meeting of the Public Arts Advisory Board as presented. A vote was taken and the motion passed 4-0 with board members Boyd, Lopez and Pugh absent. ADJOURNMENT With no further business before the board, a motion was made by board member Jones, seconded by board member Green to adjourn the meeting at 6:40 pm.
