09-22-2016 (Public Arts Advisory) Minutes 1 Public Arts Advisory Board ICITY OF WYLIE Minutes Special Called Meeting September 22, 2016—6:00 p.m. Wylie Municipal Complex Council Chambers/Conference Room 300 Country Club Road, Bldg. 100 CALL TO ORDER The Public Arts Advisory Board meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by Chair Lynn Grimes. Board members present included: Lynn Grimes, Nancy Peirce, Michael Schwerin, and Michelle Pugh, and Anita Jones. Board members Lisa Green and Brooke Lopez were absent. Staff present included: Carole Ehrlich, board liaison. DISCUSSION ITEMS • Update and discussion regarding the 2016 Wylie Arts Festival. (C. Ehrlich, PAAB Liaison) Staff/Board Discussion Public Art Liaison Ehrlich addressed the board stating that the 2016 Wylie Arts Festival was quickly approaching. She reported there were four food vendors and forty six craft vendor submissions received to date. She asked the board if the approval process would be similar to last year with returning vendors automatically approved. The board asked that all jewelry vendors be reviewed this year but all other returning vendors could be automatically approved. Chair Grimes asked for volunteers to serve on the jury of vendors. Michelle Pugh, Nancy Peirce, and Anita Jones volunteered to jury. Chair Grimes also asked that Police presence be included for the load in on Saturday morning to control vendors parking in the church parking area. She asked that Rob Hunter be contacted to bring his music students again this year to entertain from the stage during the event. She asked all members to be present at 6:30 am to assist with the vendor set up and also Friday evening from 6 am —9 pm. She also noted that handicap areas needed to be posted on Marble for handicap vendors, wishing to park in a closer location. BUSINESS ITEMS 1. Consider and act upon the review and recommendation of two contracts between September 22,2016 Wylie Public Arts Advisory Special Meeting Minutes Page 12 the City and the final artist, Michael Szabo for the 2016 Thoroughfare CIP Art Project, Site#1 and Site#2 to the Wylie City Council. (C. Ehrlich, PAAB Liaison) Staff Comments Public Art Liaison Ehrlich addressed the board stating that all of the board attended the August 25th artist presentations. PAAB members are asked to review the proposed contracts between Michael Szabo and the City to commission art for the 2016 Thoroughfare CIP project, Site #1 and Site #2 and make a recommendation to the Wylie City Council. Two contracts are presented; Site #1 and Site #2. The Wylie City Council will meet on October 11, 2016 to consider the PAAB recommendations and contract to commission the art pieces. The City Council will make the final approval and once the contract is executed, the artist can begin fabrication. She asked members to be present on the 11th council meeting. Board Action A motion was made by board member Peirce, seconded by board member Jones to recommend two contracts between the City of Wylie and the final artist, Michael Szabo to the Wylie City Council for the 2016 Thoroughfare CIP Art Projects, Site#1 and Site#2. A vote was taken and the motion passed 5-0 with board members Lopez and Green absent. 2. Consider and act upon the review and recommendation of a contract between the City and the final artist, John Davis for the 2016 Thoroughfare CIP Art Project, Site #3 to the Wylie City Council. (C. Ehrlich, PAAB staff liaison) Board Action A motion was made by board member Pugh, seconded by board member Jones to approve the August 25, 2016 Public Arts Advisory Board Special Called Meeting. A vote was taken and the motion passed 5-0 with board members Lopez and Green absent.
