01-09-2017 (Library) Minutes Library Advisory Board CITY OF WYLIE • Library Board--Minutes Monday, January 9, 2017— 7:00pm Conference Room Smith Public Library 300 Country Club Rd., Bldg. 300 Wylie, Texas 75098 CALL TO ORDER Announce the presence of a Quorum. Members present: Mindy Ayers, Janice Borland, Shirley Burnett, Kenneth Cash,Jesse Meason&Rachel Orozco,Board Liaison Members absent: Todd Abronowitz CITIZENS COMMENTS ON NON-AGENDA ITEMS Residents may address Board regarding an item that is not listed on the Agenda. Residents must provide their name and address. Board requests that comments be limited to three(3)minutes. In addition, the Board is not allowed to converse, deliberate or take action on any matter presented during citizen participation. No citizens were present at the meeting. PRESENTATION No presentation was given at the meeting. ACTION ITEMS The Library Board Minutes of Monday,November 14, 2016 were approved as presented. Meeting Room Policy: Members reviewed and discussed the final draft of the Meeting Room Policy. A motion was made to approve the Policy with minor revisions as discussed and was unanimously approved by all members. Meeting Room Application: Members reviewed and discussed the final draft of the Meeting Room Application. A motion was made to approve the Application with minor revisions as discussed and was unanimously approved by all members. DISCUSSION ITEMS Privacy Policy Update: The Board was advised by Rachel that the Privacy Policy is with the City Secretary and the City Attorney for final review and revision prior to the Board's final review and approval. Patron Behavior Policy: This Policy will be the next one that the Board will need to review and update. January 9,2017 Library Advisory Board Regular Meeting Minutes Page 2 of 3 STAFF REPORTS Upcoming Special Events: My Very Own Book Club: January 11 & 13 from 3:30-4:30pm My Very Own Book Club is for 1st&2nd graders. Kids are encouraged to read the book on their own time and then come to the meeting for discussion and a craft. Sign up at the Children's desk. Participation is limited,but all participants get a free copy of the book. • January: The Lion and the Mouse by Bernadette Watts Japanimation Club: January 12 from 6:00-7:OOpm 6th-12th graders come geek out about all things anime and manga in the storytime room! No registration required. LEGO League: January 18: For kids in 1st-4th grades. Come show off your creativity and build around a different theme every month. Cooperation and building on theme are encouraged but not required. Everyone will have a chance to present their awesome LEGO designs to the group. Age limits strictly enforced. No parents or younger/older siblings please. Space is limited. Registration required at the Children's Desk. • January: Do You Want to Build a Snowman?Build Something Snowy 3rd Grade Voyagers Club: January 19 from 3:30-4:30pm A learning club just for 3rd graders! Register at the Children's Desk to receive your passport. Space is limited. • January: Marble Obstacle Courses: Fun with Forces and Motion BeTween Book&Movie Club: January 26 from 6:00-7:O0pm Never judge a book by its movie.4th, 5th and 6th graders are invited to discuss different books that have movie adaptations. Sign up at the Children's desk. The first 50 kids to sign up get a free copy of the book. • January: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling The Queen's Houses: January 10 & @ 6:30pm Explore the numerous homes owned by the British monarchy, with special attention paid to Queen Victoria and Osborne House, which was especially close to her heart, in honor of the new miniseries, Victoria, on PBS. Presented by Dr. Jann Mackey. Part of the Rita Smith Cultural Series. Booked on Fridays: January 13 @ 12:00 Noon Bring your lunch at noon the 2'Friday of each month for fun reads and light conversation. Ages 18 & up. • January: Free Read Coloring for Adults: January 14 @ 2:00pm Coloring is a great way to relax and meet new people. Coloring sheets and pencils provided, or bring your own. Feel free to bring a snack. Anime MeetUp: January 21 @ 1:30pm Whether you're new to anime or a long-time fan,join us to watch anime and discuss anime, manga and Japanese culture. Adults &Teens 17+ Winter Reading Challenge Expand your reading repertoire and try new books. Read one book from each of the five categories on the reading log between January 1 and March 31,2017.First day to pick up logs is December 27, 2016.
