Subcommittee Meeting Minutes

CALL TO ORDER
The meeting began at 5:30 p.m.with the three Acquisition and Improvement Park Project
Subcommittee Members present: Board Chairman Rose, Board Member Chesnut, and Board Member
Robinson.
Staff members present: Parks and Recreation Superintendent, Robert Diaz, Parks Manager, Brent
Stowers, and Parks Board Secretary, Janet Hawkes.
A QUORUM OF THE PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD MEMBERS WAS NOT PRESENT FOR
THIS MEETING. NO ACTION OF THE PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD SUBCOMMITTEE WAS
TAKEN.
DISCUSSION ITEMS
Recommendations of potential projects utilizing the Parks and Acquisition and
Improvement Fund.
Staff met with the Subcommittee Members to review and discuss the current and future Acquisition and
Improvement (A& I)funding in order to recommend project priority fiscal year 2017/2018 to the Parks
and Recreation Board. The Subcommittee discussed the following new project ideas during their
meeting:
Central Zone ($106,000 available):
• Shade covers in the southeast area between Rowell and Tibbles fields at Community Park.
• Solar parking lot lighting at Community Park
• Replacement of playground equipment at Community Park
• Replacement of playground equipment at Valentine Park
East Zone($119,000 available):
• Fund matching project with Wylie Lakes Homeowners Association for a park pavilion in the
Wylie Lakes subdivision
• Installation of lighting at Joel Scott Park
West Zone ($156,000 available):
• Addition of a trail connection from Sage Creek to Wooded Creek
• Solar trail lighting at the Municipal Complex trails
• Fund matching project with Parkside Estates Homeowners Association for new park
development in Parkside Estates addition
• Replacement of playground equipment at Friendship Park
The Subcommittee requested staff provide the following information at their next meeting to assist in
finalizing their recommendation to the Parks and Recreation Board: 1) pricing for Municipal Complex
Trail lights, 2) a firm fund matching amount from the Wylie Lakes HOA for a pavilion, 3) a firm fund
matching amount from the Parkside HOA for a park improvements, and 4) League input as to whether
there is a need for lighting for the Community Park parking lots. The Subcommittee plans to meet
again in February or March to finalize their recommendation to the Parks and Recreation Board in
regards to the prioritization of projects funded out of the A& I Fund.
