05-08-2017 (Library) Minutes 411 Library Advisory Board CITY OF WYLIE r Library Board--Minutes Monday, May 8, 2017— 7:00pm Conference Room Smith Public Library 300 Country Club Rd., Bldg. 300 Wylie, Texas 75098 CALL TO ORDER Announce the presence of a Quorum. Members present: Mindy Ayers,Todd Abronowitz,Janice Borland, Shirley Burnett, Kenneth Cash, Mark Crader&Rachel Orozco, Board Liaison Members absent: Jesse Meason CITIZENS COMMENTS ON NON-AGENDA ITEMS Residents may address Board regarding an item that is not listed on the Agenda. Residents must provide their name and address. Board requests that comments be limited to three(3)minutes. In addition, the Board is not allowed to converse, deliberate or take action on any matter presented during citizen participation. No citizens were present at the meeting. PRESENTATION No presentation was given at the meeting. ACTION ITEMS The Library Board Minutes of Monday, April 10, 2017 were approved with one minor revision as discussed. DISCUSSION ITEMS The Privacy Policy had been sent back to the City Attorney for final review and clarification. As a result, the following revisions were made to the document: • The USA Freedom Act replaced the USA Patriot Act. • Wording about posting photographs was removed because nothing could be located through the Attorney Generals' office. Rachel will get back with the City Attorney for further clarification regarding group photographs. When individual photographs are taken the parents are consulted before the photographs are used. • Language regarding items on hold will be left the same. • Overdue notifications are sent out by phone call,email or mail depending on patron's choice at the time they are issued their library card and when their card is renewed. Long overdue reminders are sent by mail. The Board unanimously approved the Privacy Policy with all revisions as discussed. May 8,2017 Library Advisory Board Regular Meeting Minutes Page 2 of 2 The Summer Reading Kickoff Event is Friday,June 9 from 9:00am to 11:45am. This is our official III beginning of our summer reading programs. Reading logs can be picked up starting May 22. This event is in partnership with the Recreation Center and is a huge event. STAFF REPORTS Upcoming Special Events: Booked on Fridays: May 12 @ 12:00 Noon Bring your lunch and join us for some good conversation and fun. • May: Vanessa and Her Sister by Pryia Parmar Coloring for Adults: May 13 @ 2:00pm Discover the fun of coloring to relax and make new friends. Sheets and pencils provided, but you're welcome to bring your own. Feel free to bring a snack as well. Peeps on Parade Art Contest: May 20 All Ages. Show off your Peeptastic skills and imagination! Bring your literary-themed art made out of Peeps to display for the public. Exhibit and voting open to the public 2:00-4:OOPM. Prizes will be awarded by age categories. See our website for entry rules and more information. WordSmith Author Series with Carolyn Haines & Kelley Armstrong: May 27 At 10:30am Carolyn Haines, best known for her Sarah Booth Delaney series, will conduct a writing workshop that is suitable for older teen and adults. Register through EventBrite. At 1:00 p.m., Haines is joined by Kelley Armstrong for a panel discussion and Q&A. Signing will follow. Armstrong is best known for her Otherworld fantasy series and Casey Duncan mystery series, as well as Darkest Powers and Darkness Rising teen series and The Blackwell Pages middle grade series. Limit of two items signed per author. Participants may bring their own or purchase copies onsite from Barnes & Noble.
