Regular Meeting

CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 6:03 p.m. with the following PAAB members present: Lynn
Grimes, Michael Schwerin, Minerva Bediako, Nancy Peirce, Brooke Lopez, Anita Jones, and
Lisa Green (arrived at 6:30 p.m.)
Board liaison Carole Ehrlich was also present.
• Welcome new board member, Minerva Bediako
Board members welcomed Minerva Bediako as a new board member.
DISCUSSION ITEMS
• Update regarding the 2016 Thoroughfare Public Art Projects. (C. Ehrlich,
PAAB Liaison)
Staff Comments
PAAB Liaison Ehrlich reported the following:
Artist Michaol Szabo will be installing "Entwine" on September 27, 2017. We invite anyone wishing to
view the installation to come by Site#1 at the Municipal Complex on the 27th.
Prairie Crossing will be installed on or before the end of November 30, 2017.
John Davis is revising his base plan to submit to the City and has completed over half of the sculpture
"Lift Off'. Installation should be later this year.
• Discussion regarding LED items left from the Bluegrass on Ballard, July 1,
2017.

PAAB liaison Ehrlich reported she has been able to give the Parks and Recreation Department the
items left from the Bluegrass. They have paid $375.00 for the products remaining and will sell them at
their Glow in the Park during the Boo on Ballard event.
• Update regarding the mosaic art wall at Fire Station #3.
Staff Comments
PAAB liaison Ehrlich reported the contractor has completed the repainting of the wall holding the "100
Years, A Visual History WFR" mosaic. Members can drop by the art site to see the improved wall. It is
now a darker color to hinder the runoff damage from showing.
• Update regarding the addition of an art piece of T. F. and Hattie
Birmingham located at the Brown House.
Staff Comments
PAAB liaison Ehrlich reported the bronze sculpture of T. F. and Hattie Birmingham has been added to
the Wylie Public Art Collection. She explained when the City purchased the Brown House; the statue
was part of that purchase. This sculpture was created from a photo of the couple on their 50th wedding
anniversary. It was fabricated by artist Jack Bryant (deceased) with the assistance of his son and
daughter. It was placed there in honor of their son Ovid Birmingham who opened the Birmingham Trust
giving annual scholarships to WISD students.
Cost of the sculpture was $65,000.
BUSINESS ITEMS
1. Consider and act upon approval of the minutes from the August 17, 2017 Public
Arts Advisory Board Regular Meeting. (C. Ehrlich, PAAB staff liaison)
Board Action
A motion was made by board member Lopez, seconded by board member Jones to approve
the PAAB minutes from August 17, 2017 as presented. A vote was taken and the motion
passed 6-0 with board member Green absent.
2. Consider and act upon the appointment of the 2017 WAF jury panel.
Executive Summary
Each year the board takes volunteers to serve on the jury panel for the Wylie Arts Festival. This year Nancy
Pierce, Lisa Green and Anita Jones have volunteered to serve. Formal action should be taken to place these
volunteers in their positions

All meetings will be after the regular PAAB meeting or during the work day with 72 hour notice.
IBoard Action
A motion was made by board member Schwerin, seconded by board member Jones to appoint
Anita Jones, Nancy Peirce, and Lisa Green to the 2017 WAF jury panel. A vote was taken and
the motion passed 6-0 with board member Lisa Green absent.
Board member Lisa Green arrived at 6:30 p.m.
ADJOURNMENT
A motion was made by board member Jones, seconded by board member Schwerin to adjourn
the meeting at 6:35 p.m. A vote was taken and the motion passed 7-0.
SUB-COMMITTEE MEETING
WYLIE ARTS FESTIVAL JURY
The Jury Selection Panel for the Wylie Arts Festival will meet immediately
after the PAAB Regular meeting to review and jury the WAF applicants.
This meeting is open to the public and will be held in Council Chambers.
The newly appointed jury panel met at 6:40 p.m. to review the applications for the Wylie Arts
Festival. They concluded the review at 8:15 p.m. Present were: Anita Jones, Nancy Peirce,
Lisa Green and PAAB liaison Carole Ehrlich.
