Discussion
Artist Michael Szabo (Sites 1 and 2) and John Davis (Site 3) are working on the art pieces for the Municipal
Complex Trails and Disc Golf Park. Below are some updates regarding their milestones in the construction
and fabrication of the art pieces.
Sites #1 and #2 Municipal Complex Walking Trails
• Mike Sferra, Public Services Director is coordinating with Oncor and the two artists for service drops
and meters at the three art locations.
• Michael Szabo has submitted his electrical load requirements for sites 1 and 2, and Mike forwarded
them to Oncor for their review two weeks ago, Friday.
• Bids for the trail are due on February 2nd and IF all goes well, Council may award a construction
contract at the February 28th Council meeting. The contractor will need to coordinate concrete pour
scheduling with Szabo. The art fund will be paying for additional concrete to allow a walk around the
structure for convenience and ADA requirements.
• Szabo has submitting his plans and Building Inspections has approved his permits for the two art
structures. He will begin fabrication within the next week. He has been given 3 milestone payments.
Site #3 — Disc Golf Park

Discussion regarding an additional art piece from event funds, possible budget, and placement of the
art.
Recommendation

Discussion
The Public Art events have raised funding for several years and allowed the purchase of one art piece for the
Public Safety building. Funds in the account raised from these events have increased and will allow for
another piece of art to be procured.
Staff would like direction from the board regarding a desired art site, procedures for inviting artists to submit,
and a budget for the art. This will be the beginning steps in selecting a piece of art and suitable site, to be
installed FY 2017/2018.

Possible Public Art Sites
Staff has suggested several public art sites for an additional art piece.
They include the following:
Wylie Animal Shelter, Hensley Road
Historic Stone House, Ballard Avenue (near Fire Station 1)
Senior Center, Thomas Road (perhaps an indoor piece)
Riverway Park (Numbers 12 and 13 on the map)...west side of town.
Creekside Estates Park (Number 15 on the map) ...northwest part of
town.
Kingsbridge Park (Number 34 on the map)...far northwest part of town.
The board is free to make other suggestions regarding a suitable site for
art. The property must be owned and operated by the City.
