The Library Board Minutes of Monday, September 11, 2017 were approved with one minor revision as
discussed.
DISCUSSION ITEMS
Library Emergency Plan: Library staff received Active Shooter Training as part of their In-Service
training in September. Training highlights were shared with the Board. The architects who designed the
building are currently helping to re-design the library computer lab into two separate spaces with a wall.
(One side would be a MakerSpace and the other side would be for classes and meetings.)During the
walk-through,they discussed looking into adding additional safety/emergency evacuation features in the
library such as"break-out"windows in the Teen Room and/or an exterior exit door behind the Teen
Room desk. They will also look into adding an exit door at the far end of the library in a place that was
originally designed to be a back door. Rachel advised that the Library will also be creating an Emergency
Preparedness Plan. The plan will be brought to the Board for review after it has been drafted.
February 13,2017 Library Advisory Board Regular Meeting Minutes Page 2 of 3
Patron Behavior Issues: Rachel shared with the Board some scripted responses that have been drafted
in-house that library staff can use to aid themselves when confronting Patron behavior issues. These
responses have been based off of the Code of Conduct that was approved by the Library Board. The
question was raised as to whether the document could still be considered discoverable since it is in
writing(even though it is only intended for in-house use). Rachel will consult with the City Attorney
regarding this question.
