The Chairman and Board request that all cell phones and pagers be turned off or set to vibrate. Members of the audience are requested to step outside the Conference Room to respond to a page or to conduct a phone conversation. The Smith Public Library is wheelchair accessible. Programs for Adults Scene Around Town: Art & Culture January 13 — 2 p.m. Whether you're new to town or looking for a new discovery, join us for an armchair tour of Wylie's public art and the Dallas art and culture scene. Part of the Rita Smith Cultural Series. Presented by Carole Ehrlich, Wylie Public Art Program, and Gail Sachson, Ask Me About Art. Suitable for older children, but all ages welcome. Light refreshments served. Read More Ages 18 and up Choose 12 titles to read or listen to from 25 categories during the year Or go the distance and read 20 books. Logs may be turned in starting October 2, 2018. Return completed* log by December 31, 2018. Successful challengers will receive a book light for 12 titles, a journal for 20. Winter Reading Challenge January 1 to March 10 Ages 18 and Up Read or listen to three books and record their titles to complete a log for prizes! Pick up a reading log December 27 through March 10. PRESENTATION No presentation was given at the meeting. ACTION ITEMS The Library Board Minutes of Monday,October 9,2017 were approved as presented. DISCUSSION ITEMS Update on redesign of computer lab: Upon meeting adjournment (at 7:32pm), Board Members were taken to the Library to receive a tour of the Computer Lab and review proposed re-design ideas. Update on Library Emergency Plan: The City Secretary was consulted and confirmed that the Library is covered under the Blackman-Mooring contract,who can be contacted if anything ever happens to the library records. A question was raised as to whether Blackman-Mooring needs to come inspect the Library to see what records we have, etc. Rachel will ask about this. Members also received an update on the Emergency Preparedness Plan and reviewed the current items that the Library plans to incorporate into the plan. Update on Staff Appreciation Reception: The go-ahead was given for Library Staff to take off early in order to attend the reception. The reception will take the place of December's Library Board meeting. Board members reviewed and discussed the reception and delegated items that need to be provided. November 13,2017 Library Advisory Board Regular Meeting Minutes Page 2 of 2 STAFF REPORTS Library Programs and Special Events: LEGO Family Build Day:Wednesday,November 22 from 2:00—3:45pm: Take a break from holiday prep and come show off your imagination by building with the library's LEGO and DUPLO.All ages welcome. Children nine(9)year old and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Star Wars Come and Go Party!: Tuesday,November 21 from 2:00—4:00pm: Join the Rebel Alliance and celebrate all things Star Wars at this come and go event for the whole family! Enjoy games, crafts, a scavenger hunt and photo booth. Costumes are strongly encouraged. Teen Writing an Irresistible Novel: an Interactive Workshop: Saturday,December 2 from 1:00—4:00pm: All aspiring teen authors are welcome to attend this three hour writing workshop with YA Author Jenny Martin! Adult Read More Challenge 2017 Read or listen to one book from each of the 20 categories below and record their titles on the log. Titles may not be used for more than one category.
