In accordance with Section 551.042 of the Texas Government Code, this agenda has been posted at the Wylie Municipal Complex, distributed to the
appropriate news media,and posted on the City website: www.wvlietexas.gov within the required time frame.
The Chairman and Board request that all cell phones and pagers be turned off or set to vibrate. Members of the audience are requested to step outside the
Conference Room to respond to a page or to conduct a phone conversation.
The Smith Public Library is wheelchair accessible. Sign interpretation or other special assistance for disabled attendees must be requested 48 hours in
advance by contacting the City Secretary's Office at 972-516-6020.

Programs for Children
Kids Winter Reading Challenge
February 1 through March 31
For kids in kindergarten through fifth grade. Stop by the Children's Desk to pick up the reading map.
Complete a path to get a prize while supplies last! We encourage children to read any books they
choose on their reading level.
L.A.M.B. Collection
February 1 —April 28
Children 5th grade and younger may submit up to three original books for in-house check-out at the
Library. Complete Rules of Participation can be found here.
There will be four separate Young Author's Receptions held on Saturday 5/12/18. Online registration is
required and will go live here on Saturday 4/28/18. Authors will only be allowed to participate in one
reception.
LEGO Family Build Day
Monday February 19
2:00 p.m.-3:45 pm
Show off your imagination with the library's LEGO and DUPLO. All ages welcome. Children age 9 and
younger must be accompanied by an adult.
Programs for Teens
Teen Winter BINGO Reading Challenge
February 1 through March 31
For 6th-12th graders only. Come to the Teen Room to pick up your BINGO card. Finish a row and get a
prize while supplies last.
Teen Anti-Valentine's Day Party
Thursday February 15 from 5:30 p.m.-7:00 pm
6th-12th graders come to the Multi-Purpose Room to celebrate all things anti-Valentine's with
chocolate, games, Mad-Libs and other crafts. No registration required. For 6th-12th graders only.

Winter Reading Challenge
January 1 to March 10
Ages 18 and Up
Read or listen to three books and record their titles to complete a log for prizes!
Pick up a reading log December 27 through March 10.

Seed Swap
Saturday, February 24, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Wylie Recreation Center Arrive a few minutes early to place out your seeds. Bulbs and cuttings also
welcome. Come even if you don't have seeds to bring. Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer
questions and offer scheduled demos to get you started on the garden of your dreams. Suitable for
adults and families. Contact the Library's Help Desk for information on what to bring, types of seeds
accepted, and more. Please limit your time with a Master Gardener to no more than 10 minutes.

CALL TO ORDER

No citizens were present at the meeting.
PRESENTATION
No presentation was given at the meeting.
ACTION ITEMS
The Library Board Minutes of Monday,November 13, 2017 were approved as presented.
DISCUSSION ITEMS
Library Emergency Plan: Rachel has sent the plan to the City Attorney for review with focus on the
"special needs"section. Rachel has also requested to review the Rec Center's Emergency Plan. They are
currently working to finalize their plan into one document; and she will check back on their progress.
Rachel has also reached out to the Police Chief, who will review and provide input on the best way to
handle threats by phone.
Library Board Members reviewed and discussed the Plan. The following changes/additions were
proposed:
• Under Evacuating the Building: due to proximity,the Circulation Workroom/Librarian's Offices
and Conference Room will be evacuated by Technical Services/Admin and the Circulation Staff
will evacuate the Multipurpose Room and lobby/public restrooms.
• Periodic evacuation drills need to be included. Rachel will check with Fire/Rescue or Risk
Management to see if a certain number of drills are required.
• Procedures will be added for accounting for and de-briefing Library staff after an evacuation.

• Procedures will be added for staff to utilize code words over the intercom for emergency
situations.
• References for dialing 911 will be changed to clarify that 9-911 must be utilized on City landline
phones in order to obtain an outside line.
• Procedures for how to handle minor patrons during a lockdown will be addressed.
Rachel will incorporate above changes and will also make any changes suggested by the City Attorney
and present to Board Members for further discussion and review.

Family Movie Day:Annie(Rated G, 2014): Monday,January 15 from 1:30-3:30pm:
Make plans to hang out with us MLK Day and enjoy this musical in the Multi-purpose room. Feel free to
bring blankets and your own snacks.All ages welcome. Children nine (9) years old and younger must be
accompanied by an adult.

Scene Around Town: Art & Culture: Saturday,January 13 at 2:00pm:
Whether you're new to town or looking for a new discovery,join us for an armchair tour of Wylie's
public art and the Dallas art and culture scene. Part of the Rita Smith Cultural Series. Presented by Carole
Ehrlich, Wylie Public Art Program, and Gail Sachson,Ask Me About Art. Suitable for older children,but
all ages welcome. Light refreshments will be served.
Read More Challenge:
Choose 12 titles to read or listen to from 25 categories during the year, or go the distance and read 20
books. Logs may be turned in starting October 2, 2018.. Return completed log by December 31, 2018.
Successful challengers will receive a book light for 12 titles and a journal for 20 titles.
