CALL TO ORDER
Announce the presence of a Quorum.
Members present: Mindy Ayers,Juan M. Azcarate III, Janice Borland, Shirley Burnett, Rosalynn Davis,
Jesse Meason, & Rachel Orozco, Board Liaison
Members absent: Kenneth Cash
CITIZENS COMMENTS ON NON-AGENDA ITEMS
Residents may address Board regarding an item that is not listed on the Agenda. Residents must provide their name
and address. Board requests that comments be limited to three(3)minutes. In addition, the Board is not allowed to
converse, deliberate or take action on any matter presented during citizen participation.
No citizens were present at the meeting.
PRESENTATION
No presentation was given at the meeting.
ACTION ITEMS
The Library Board Minutes of Monday, February 12, 2018 were approved as presented.
DISCUSSION ITEMS
Library Emergency Plan: Consider and act upon approval of the Library Emergency Plan
The Board reviewed the following final revisions and discussion items in regards to the Emergency Plan:
• Under"Modified Lockdown", the protocol for minors has been updated to indicate that staff must
confer with a parent/guardian before allowing a minor to leave with another adult(such as a
friend's parent, etc.).
• The dumpster in the front parking lot of the Library and the Library Garden in the back have been
designated as the two meeting locations for Library staff after an emergency evacuation.
• Rachel is waiting to hear back from Steve Seddig on if/how often fire and active shooter drills
will take place for the Library.
• The Rec Center is still working on their emergency plan. They will let Rachel know when they
have completed it so we can compare plans.
• When new Library Employees are hired, Laura Condit(Library Safety Committee Liaison) will
review the Library Emergency Plan with them when she does their review of the Safety checklist
handbook.

• Rachel has emailed Debbie Buccino to find out what the weather report communication
procedures will be for the City during emergency events.
A motion was made by Shirley Burnett to accept the Library Emergency Plan as printed. The motion was
seconded by Juan M. Azcarate III. The Board unanimously approved the Emergency Plan with revisions
as discussed.
Review of Library Grants:
The Board discussed details of the following grants that the Library has received and/or applied for:
Family Place Grant: The Library applied for and had received a Family Place Grant. Family Place
fosters and promotes early literacy. Rachel and Debbie Nowling will be traveling to New York to receive
training on implementing this early literacy program at the Library.
Special Projects Grant: The Library has applied for a Special Projects Grant. If the grant is awarded, the
money will be used to help fund items for an Innovation Center at the Library.
Impact Grant: The Library has applied for this grant, and if received, the money will be used to help fund
additional STEAM Kits for the Library. (Kits that introduce hands-on technology in the fields of science,
technology, engineering, art and math.)

Programs for Children:
Kids Winter Reading Challenge: February 1 —March 31:
For kids in kindergarten through fifth grade. Stop by the Children's Desk to pick up the reading map.
Complete a path to get a prize while supplies last! We encourage children to read any books they choose
on their reading level.
L.A.M.B Collection: February 1—April 28:
Children 5th grade and younger may submit up to three original books for in-house check-out at the
Library. Complete Rules of Participation can be found on the library website.There will be four separate
Young Author's Receptions held on Saturday 5/12/18. Online registration is required and will go live on
Saturday 4/28/48.Authors will only be allowed to participate in one reception.
LEGO Family Build Day: Monday,February 19 from 2:00-3:45pm:
Show off your imagination with the Library's LEGO and DUPLO.All ages welcome. Children 9 and
younger must be accompanied by an adult.
Programs for Teens:
Teen Winter BINGO Reading Challenge: February 1 through March 31:
For 6`h-12`h graders only. Come to the Teen Room to pick up your BINGO card. Finish a row and get a
prize while supplies last.
Programs for Adults:
Winter Reading Challenge: January 1 through March 10:
Read or listen to three books and record their titles to complete a log for prizes! Pick up a reading log
December 27 through March 10. Ages 18 and Up.

Culture Fest: Japan: March 21 &24
Our first biennial mini culture fest features the land of the rising sun. We kick off March 21 with an
introduction to Kabuki Theater by Kent Williams. Kabuki Theater is suitable for older children and up.
The festivities on the 24th, with offerings for all ages, run through the day, capped off with the Japanese
tea ceremony. Registration is required for certain events and will open March 1st. See the library's
website for the full schedule as events are added.
