CALL TO ORDER
The Public Arts Advisory Board meeting was called to order at 6:08 p.m. by Chair Lynn Grimes. Board
members present included: Michael Schwerin, Nancy Peirce, and Minerva Bediako, Anita Jones, and Lisa
Green. Board member Brooke Lopez was absent.
Staff present included: Carole Ehrlich, Public Art Coordinator.
DISCUSSION ITEMS
• Update regarding the 2016 Thoroughfare Public Art Projects. (C. Ehrlich, Public
Art Coordinator)
Executive Summary
Ehrlich addressed the board reporting all three sculptures had been completed and two have been
approved by the board. She explained that everyone had reviewed Prairie Crossing and an action item
would be discussed later in the meeting to make the final approval for that sculpture.
• Discussion regarding the Municipal Complex Public Art and Trails Dedication
and the Lavon Disc Golf Park Art Dedication. (C. Ehrlich, Public Art Coordinator)
Executive Summary
Ehrlich reported the Wylie Community Band would be performing at the dedication from 9:30 am and after
until 11:00 am. She explained the main dedication would be held in front of Prairie Crossing and then
would move to the Lavon Disc Golf Park for a Frisbee toss by those in attendance and a ribbon cutting by
artist John Davis.
• Update regarding the Bluegrass on Ballard set for June 30, 2018. (C. Ehrlich,

Executive Summary
The board discussed the Bluegrass on Ballard and committees were formed to facilitate the event.
Ehrlich asked for board members to determine the timeframe they wished to work. The scheduling was as
follows:
Lynn Grimes—all day
Nancy Peirce— morning
Michael Schwerin —all day
Minerva Bediako— morning
Anita Jones—all day
Carole Ehrlich —all day
Tina Link—morning
The board asked that there be three unloading areas be used for the vendors. One on Jackson color
coded orange, one on Oak color coded green and one on Ballard color coded blue. Each location would
have one captain to mark vendors present and assist with issues that come up. They also requested two
volunteers/board members be present at the corner of Jackson and Oak to direct vendors according to the
color placard they have on their windshield.
Chair Grimes asked that the food vendors come in and set up away from the curb area on Ballard to give
vendors the opportunity to park and unload.
Ehrlich reported she would ask the newly appointed members to attend to get an idea of how the event i
facilitated.
Chair Grimes, Anita, and Michael volunteered to be over the volunteers. The board also asked that
emergency vehicle be onsite in the event there were any vendor health issues.
BUSINESS ITEMS
1. Consider and act upon approval of the minutes from the April 19, 2018 Public Arts
Advisory Board Regular Meeting. (C. Ehrlich, PAAB staff liaison)
Board Action
A motion was made by board member Peirce, seconded by board member Jones to approve the
April 19, 2018 Public Arts Advisory Board minutes. A vote was taken and the motion passed 6-0
with board member Lopez absent.
2. Consider and act upon the approval of the final artist for the Wylie Animal Shelter
Public Art Project for recommendation to the Wylie City Council for commissioning
of the art.
3 Executive Summary
Ehrlich addressed the board stating that the members had attended the earlier meeting of the three semi-
final artists and their presentations for the Wylie Animal Shelter. She reported the Animal Shelter
Selection Committee had recommended Robert Barnum as the final artist for the project.

She asked the board to take final action to recommend either the Animal Shelter Selection Committee's
recommended artist or another of the semi-final artists for final recommendation to the Wylie City Council.
Board Action
A motion was made by board member Schwerin, seconded by board member Green to
recommend Robert Barnum to the Wylie City Council as the final artist for the Wylie Animal
Shelter Public Art Project with the following stipulations:
• The girl sculpture have a happy face as she holds her dog
• Change the wording from Animal = Humans to some other combination that depicts
the connection between animals and humans
• Be more specific regarding the construction of lighting for the project
A vote was taken and the motion passed 6-0 with board member Lopez absent.
3. Consider and act upon final approval of Prairie Crossing by Michael Szabo and final
payment in the amount of$19,500.
Executive Summary
Ehrlich addressed the board stating that after review of the final installed sculpture by Michael Szabo
(Prairie Crossing), staff is asking for final approval of the sculpture and the final payment in the amount of
$19, 500.

A motion was made by board member Jones, seconded by board member Peirce to approve the
final installation and sculpture of Prairie Crossing by Michael Szabo and authorize the final
payment of $19,500. A vote was taken and the motion passed 6-0 with board member Lopez
absent.

A motion was made by board member Schwerin, seconded by board member Green to adjourn
the meeting at 8:59 p.m. A vote was taken and the motion passed 6-0 with board member
Lopez absent.
