CALL TO ORDER
The Public Arts Advisory Board meeting was called to order at 6:05 p.m. by Vice Chair Nancy
Peirce. Board members present included: Minerva Bediako, Ross Grant, and Lily Courtney.
Members absent were Michael Schwerin, Anita Jones, and Marjorie Bennett.
Staff present included Carole Ehrlich, Public Art Coordinator and Brent Stowers, Parks
Supervisor.
DISCUSSION ITEMS
• Update regarding the Animal Shelter Public Art Project. (C. Ehrlich, Public Arts
. Coordinator)
Staff Comments
Ehrlich updated the board on the progress of the Animal Shelter Public Art project and artist Robert
Barnum. She reported .he had presented the art proposal to the Wylie City Council on August 14,
2018 and the Council had unanimously approved the project.
She noted the large model provided by artist Barnum would be displayed in the council entry and
then be moved to the library.
• Update regarding the 2018 Wylie Arts Festival. (C. Ehrlich, Public Arts
Coordinator)
Staff Comments
Ehrlich updated the board on the progress of vendor applications for the 2018 Wylie Arts Festival.
She reported there were currently 85 applications with some for review by the selection committee
following this meeting.

• Discussion regarding additional fund raiser events for 2018.

Staff/Board Comments
Staff and the board discussed the possibility of an additional fund raiser each year to raise additional funding for the
arts. Some of the ideas communicated by the board members included a highfjunior high school band competition in
the spring with entry fees for student bands from the regional area and arts and craft vendors. A junior high pageant
with a scholarship award for the winning contestant. This would include asking organizations to donate the
scholarship to be awarded. Additionally inviting dance studios to compete with the bands or separately at another
event.
Board members asked to continue discussion and post on the next regular meeting agenda so the full board could
be present to discuss possible options for an event.
' BUSINESS ITEMS
1. Consider, and act upon, approval of the minutes from the July 26, 2018 Public Arts
Advisory Board Regular Meeting. (C. Ehrlich, Public Art Coordinator)
Board Action
A motion was made by board member Courtney, seconded by board member Bediako to approv
the July 26, 2018 Public Arts Advisory Board minutes as presented. A vote was taken and the
motion passed 4-0 with board members Jones, Schwerin, and Bennett absent. .
2. Consider and act upon the appointment of a three board members to sit on the 2018
Wylie Arts Festival Vendor approval committee. (C. Ehrlich, Public Art Coordinator)
Staff Comments
Public Arts Coordinator Ehrlich explained that each year the board nominates volunteers to serve on the
WAF vendor selection committee to review applicants for the Wylie Arts Festival. Staff is requesting that
three members be chosen to serve in this capacity. The reviews will be prior to or following PAAB monthly
meetings and during the work day in some cases. Volunteers should be able to attend the reviews.
Board Action
A motion was made by board member Courtney, seconded by board member Grant to approve
Minerva Bediako, Lily Courtney, and Ross Grant to serve on the 2018 WAF Vendor Selection
Committee. A vote was taken and the motion passed 4-0 with board members Jones, Schwerin,
and Bennett absent. .

ADJOURNMENT
Board Action •
A motion was made by board member Bediako, seconded by board member Courtney to
adjourn the meeting at 6:50 p.m. A vote was taken and the motion passed 4-0 with board
members Jones, Schwerin, and Bennett absent.
Board members Bediako, Courtney, and Ross met at 6:55 p.m. to review vendors for the
upcoming Wylie Arts Festival event. They completed the review at 7:45 p.m.
