Homeschool Art Series: Stephanie Pierce, part-time Reference Assistant is teaching a Library Art

place once per month on Tuesdays starting September 11 and will go through December. Each class
will feature the history of an artist and students will create a work of art based on the featured artist's
works. This will be a cumulative series— each class will build on the previous class. Stephanie has a
Master's of Art degree with an emphasis on sculpture.
Family Place Library: The Family Place Library is set-up in the Children's area with a storytime castle,
educational toys and books. Family Place builds on the knowledge that good health, early learning,
parental involvement and supportive communities play a critical role in a young child's growth and
development. The overall goal of Family Place Libraries is to develop and institutionalize a family
friendly environment by transforming libraries into community centers for literacy, early childhood
development, parent education and engagement, family support and community information. The

Collin County Budget: Members discussed the Library's 2018-19 budget request, which was submitted
to Collin County. This year there are 5 libraries who have submitted a budget request to the county
(Salina, Farmersville,Princeton,Prosper and Wylie). The libraries have proposed that they evenly divide
the requested funds if approved. If the county approves the budget request, each library will receive
$17,170.00 in funds. Presentations will be done in August and the county has to approve it by September.
Rachel will keep the Board updated.
Grant Updates: Rachel provided an update on the Impact Grant and Special Projects Grant the Library
applied for through the Texas State Library and Archives Commission(TSLAC).
• Impact Grant: The Library received this $10,000 grant, which will be used to fund STEAM Kits.
• Special Projects Grant: The Library did not receive this grant, although we came extremely close.
Approximately 28 libraries applied for funds from this grant and 14 were funded—our library
