appropriate news media,and posted on the City website:• www.wylietexas.gov within the required time frame.
The Chairman and Board request that all cell phones and pagers be turned off or set to vibrate. Members of the audience are requested to step outside the
Conference Room to respond to a page or to conduct a phone conversation.
The Smith Public Library is wheelchair accessible. Sign interpretation or other special assistance for disabled attendees must be requested 48 hours in
advance by contacting the City Secretary's Office at 972-516-6020.

Try out a new kind of social media. Come paint a rock. Place it around town (where allowed). When
someone finds it, they post a photo to social media with a hashtag so people can track its whereabouts.
They either keep it, leave it or place it somewhere else.

PRESENTATION
No presentation was given at the meeting.
ACTION ITEMS
The Library Board Minutes of Monday, April 9, 2018 were approved as presented.
DISCUSSION ITEMS
Family Place Libraries Grant: Rachel and Debbie have completed their travel and training in New
York for the Family Place Libraries Grant. The Board watched a video overview and discussed the
programs and services that will be implemented using the program. The grant money will go toward the
purchase of books, toys, supplies, etc. needed to implement the program. The timeline for the program
launch was discussed. Everything must be purchased by July and by August 31,the Library must make a
report to the state on what was purchased. Rachel advised that we will likely wait until after the
conclusion of this year's Summer Reading Club programs and then begin setting up the space for the
program and purchase the supplies by August and talk about next steps. The program itself will likely be
launched in the new year(around January).
Library Budget Review,FY 19: The Board reviewed the City's FY19 Budget Calendar. The Board
reviewed and discussed the Library's proposed budget for FY19. There are no notable changes in the
Library's general operating budget for this coming year. The Library is submitting ESL(expanded level

of service) requests for the following additional budget items that will focus on staff/patron safety,
additional workforce, community focused government and infrastructure in FY 19:
00 Breakout windows for the Teen Room
0o Convert window to door in Adult Services Department/Reference
00 Controller for Badge Access (for Youth Services Office and Circulation Workroom)
0o Upgrade of a FT Reference Assistant to a Librarian
00 Print Management System
0o Computer/Optical Scanner for Self-Checks/Upgrade
0o Televisions and Stands Replacement
00 Two 3M Workstations
0o Acoustical Panels for Children's Area
0o Envisionware Web Payment for Library Fines/Fees
STAFF REPORTS
Upcoming Library Events:
Rachel passed out and the Board reviewed copies of the Summer Reading 2018 Activity Guides for the
Library.
Summer Reading Club logs are available beginning Monday, May 21st.
The Summer Reading Kickoff Event is Friday,June 8 from 9:00am to 11:45am. This is the official
beginning of our summer reading programs. There will be overflow parking available at Wylie High
School with complimentary shuttle service to the Municipal Complex.
