CALL TO ORDER
Announce the presence of a Quorum.
David Dahl called to order the Animal Shelter Advisory Board meeting at 6:18 pm. Board
members present: Shelia Patton, David Dahl and Dr. Brad Abraham. Quorum is present.

Board Action
A motion was made by Brad Abraham to accept the Animal Shelter Advisory Board minutes of
February 28, 2018 as presented. Shelia Patton seconded to accept the Animal Shelter Advisory
Board minutes of February 28, 2018 as presented. A vote was taken and the motion passed
unanimously.

Board Action
A motion was made by David Dahl to accept and place on file first quarter statistical information
for shelter operations. Brad Abraham seconded the motion to accept and place on file first quarter

DISCUSSION ITEMS
4. Discussion regarding shelter events and status first quarter. (S. Patton, ASAB Board
Member)
Shelia Patton reports eight sterilization transports for public access from Wylie Animal
Control for residents to low cost animal care provider. Three low cost vaccination clinics
held at the City of Wylie Animal Control during evening hours to provide residents
access to low cost vaccinations, heartworm testing and preventative medication.
Residents can comply with registration of pets as two staff members as well as
veterinarian and vet assistant are on site. Two animals have been placed into foster care
program. Volunteers have logged twenty six hours and service workers have logged
eighty six hours. Pet of the week twice monthly with Wylie News is ongoing. Facebook
for social media outreach is still maintained and has proved to be an effective mode of
communication for lost pets, adoptable animals and information related to the cities pet
needs and services. Thirty seven animals received services through the pre-adoption
sterilization program. Officers have completed three tours of the facility to include
question and answer sessions to educate young future pet owners regarding the

responsibilities that come with adoption. The Smith Public Library collected needed
items for the furry friends at Shelter. Residents visited the library between May 1 and
May 31 to donate an item from the wish list and up to $10.00 in overdue fines was
waived from their library account. Fees were not be waived for lost or damaged items.
Commitment has been made from City of Wylie Animal Control for this year's Clear the
Shelter event. Clear the Shelters will take place on Saturday, August 18, between 10
a.m. and 5 p.m. at local participating animal shelters. Since 2014, more than 23,500
pets have been adopted from North Texas shelters and over 150,000 animals have
found loving homes across the country during the event. In 2017, a total
of 7,540 animals were adopted over the three-week campaign period locally of
which 3,146 were adopted in one day.
5. Discussion regarding date for final 2018 required ASAB meeting. (D. Dahl, ASAB
Chair)
The next meeting of the Animal Shelter Advisory Board will be held Wednesday October
17, 2018 at 6:00 pm. The location will be determined upon the availability of meeting
room.

Motion was made by Shelia Patton and seconded by Brad Abraham to adjourn meeting. With
no further business before the board, consensus of the board was to adjourn at 6:41 pm.
