05-13-2019 (Library) Minutes I A ®® Library Advisory Board CITY OF WYLIE Minutes Regular Meeting May 13, 2019—7:00 p.m. Smith Public Library— Conference Room 300 Country Club Road,Bldg. 300 Wylie, TX 75098 CALL TO ORDER Announce the presence of a Quorum. Members present: Mindy Ayers,Juan M. Azcarate III,Janice Borland, Shirley Burnett, Kenneth Cash, Rosalynn Davis,Jesse Meason, &Rachel Orozco,Board Liaison Members absent: None CITIZENS COMMENTS ON NON-AGENDA ITEMS Residents may address Board regarding an item that is not listed on the Agenda. Residents must provide their name and address: Board requests that comments be limited to three(3)minutes. In addition, the Board is not allowed to converse, deliberate, or take action on any matter presented during citizen participation. No citizens were present at the meeting. PRESENTATION No presentation was given at the meeting. ACTION ITEMS The Library Board Minutes of Monday,April 8, 2019 were approved with one minor revision as discussed. REGULAR AGENDA—DISCUSSION ITEMS 1. FY 20 Budget Dates: Rachel provided, and the Board discussed the following notable budget dates for the Library: • May 20: Budget due to Finance • June 4: Meet with City Manager and Finance to review budget • July 9: Budget presentation to Council Minutes May 13,2019 Library Advisory Board Page 1 2. FY 20 Budget Review: Rachel provided the Board with an overview and explanation of the FY 20 budget plan that the library will present to the City Council for approval this year. The board reviewed and discussed. STAFF REPORTS Upcoming Library Programs: Family Summer Kick-Off Party: Friday,June 7th at 9:00am The library's annual summer kick-off event is approaching. Last year the library had 1,800 visitors for the event. Rachel invited any Board members who would like to volunteer for the kick-off to come on out— we will be glad to put you to work! Friends of the Library Book Sale: Saturday,July 13th from 9:00am—5:00pm Set-up for this year's book sale will take place on Friday,July 12 in the afternoon. The book sale will take place on Saturday,July 13.This is another great volunteer opportunity if any Board members would like to come help with this event. Adult (Sub)Urban: Thursday,May 16th at 6:30pm This talk will cover the unique challenges and opportunities that suburban homesteading can bring, with specific focuses on keeping chickens, managing a garden, and rainwater catchment for irrigation among others. Genealogy Boot Camp: Saturday,May 18th at 10:00am Discover tips and resources to help you discover your family history. Sessions will focus on death and burial records, military records, understanding DNA test results, and more. Document scanning services will also be available.
