05-16-2019 (Public Arts Advisory) Minutes '® Public Arts Advisory Board CITY OF WYLIE Minutes Regular Called Meeting May 16, 2019 — 6:00 p.m. Wylie Municipal Complex City Council Chambers/Conference Room 300 Country Club Road, Bldg. 100 CALL TO ORDER The Public Arts Advisory Board meeting was called to order at 6:03 p.m. by Vice Chair Nancy Peirce. Members present included: Minerva Bediako, Anita Jones, and Ross Grant. Board members Michael Schwerin, Lily Courtney, and Marjorie Bennett were absent. Staff present included Public Arts Coordinator Carole Ehrlich. DISCUSSION ITEMS • Discussion regarding the Animal Shelter Public Art Project Dedication. (C. Ehrlich, Public Arts Coordinator) Staff/Board Comments Ehrlich reported that the art dedication is scheduled for June 1, 2019 at 9:30 am at the Animal Shelter near the sculptures. Ehrlich explained that the Community Band would be playing prior to the beginning of the event. Many posts have been made on Facebook and on the website inviting those that have adopted from the shelter to bring their furry friend to the event for a reunion. Also planned was Pet Supplies Plus to hand out treats to the animals in attendance. Ehrlich reported the plaque and landscaping was complete and ready for the event. She asked members to be at the event at 9:00 am on Saturday morning. • Committee report regarding fundraiser options for the 2019 Wylie Arts Festival. (C. Ehrlich, Public Arts Coordinator) Staff/Board Comments Committee members were not in attendance. The item was tabled to the next meeting. • Update regarding the Bluegrass on Ballard Event, set for June 29, 2019. Board Comments Public Arts Coordinator Ehrlich reported there were currently 68 vendor and 12 food applications accepted. She noted she would anticipate over one hundred by the event date. Ehrlich asked that all members be present from 6:30 am to about 11:00 am to assist vendors setting up. She also reported that the ROTC group would be back this year to assist the vendors. 111 Final plans will be made at the June board meeting. BUSINESS ITEMS 1. Consider, and act upon, approval of the minutes from the April 18, 2019 Public Arts Advisory Board Regular Meeting. (C. Ehrlich, Public Art Coordinator) Board Action A motion was made by board member Jones, seconded by board member Bediako to approve the April 18, 2019 Public Arts Advisory Board minutes. A vote was taken and the motion passed 4-0, with board members Schwerin, Courtney, and Bennett absent. 2. Consider and act upon, approval of a plaque for the Animal Shelter Public Art Project. (C. Ehrlich, Public Arts Coordinator) Board Discussion Ehrlich explained the plaque, constructed of steel to be uniform with the aluminum used for the sculpture was approved at the April 18, 2019 board meeting. It was approved for an estimated cost not to exceed $400. When staff contacted the company the final cost including shipped was $602.00. Staff is requesting approval of the additional cost. Ehrlich noted a steel plaque had not been ordered since 2010 and the cost had risen. Board Action A motion was made by board member Jones, seconded by board member Grant to approve the additional cost of $202 for the Animal Shelter Public Art Plaque. A vote was taken and the motion passed 4-0, with board members Schwerin, Courtney, and Bennett absent.
