Board Chair, Janice Borland called the meeting to order at 7:04pm. The following Library Board members were present: Juan M. Azcarate III, Janice Borland, Kenneth Cash, Rosalynn Davis, Jesse Meason, & Rachel Orozco, Board Liaison. Members absent included: Arthur Borgemenke and Carla McCullough. No citizens were present at the meeting. PRESENTATION No presentations were given at the meeting. ACTION ITEMS 1. Consider and act upon approval of the Minutes of the September 9,2019 Library Board Meeting. Board Action: Jesse Meason made a motion to approve the Library Board Minutes of Monday, September 9, 2019 as presented. Juan M. Azcarate III seconded the motion. A vote was taken and the motion carried unanimously. REGULAR AGENDA—DISCUSSION ITEMS 1. Library Budget FY 20 Update: The library budget passed as presented to the City Council. Rachel provided the Board with a brief overview of what the library was approved to add to the FY20 budget, as well as some general outcomes of the City Council meeting. 2. Library Policies on Webpage: As a refresher,the Board began a review and discussion of the current policies and tabs on the Policies page of the website, as well as some potential policy updates/changes to take into consideration. Rachel will follow-up with the Electronic Services Librarian to get this change made. b. The next Board meeting will begin with a review/discussion of the library's Borrower Policy. STAFF REPORTS Up-Coming Library Programs: THE FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY Costume Contest Fundraiser: Tuesday, October 29th from 5:30- 7:00pm Open to all ages. Judging begins at 6:00pm. $1.00 entry fee—all proceeds benefit the library. YOUTH SERVICES - CHILDREN Play & Learn n, SPL: Monday, October 28'from 10:00-1.1:1.5am Brenda Oksanen from Wylie ISD will answer questions about speech and hearing development. My Very Own Book Club: Wednesday, November 13'or Friday, November 15'from 3:30-4:30pm For 15' and 2nd graders. Participants read the book, discuss the story and illustrations,have a snack and do a craft. This month's book is A Sick Day for Amos McGee by Philip Christian Stead. LEGO League: Wednesday,November 5'or Friday,November 7'from 3:30-4:30pm For 1 s'—4th graders. Come build with the library's LEGO collection on a specific theme each month.We read a book that explores the theme and inspires ideas for building. This month's theme is "Yummy in My Tummy". Voyagers: 3rd Grade Learning Club: Thursday,November 141h from 3:30-4:30pm Each month we explore a different topic and participate in a hands-on activity. This month's topic/challenge is to Decorate Mugs & Make Your Own Trail Mix. BeTween Book& Movie Club: Thursday, October 24'from 6:00-7:00pm Read a book and watch the movie on your own. Come to watch scenes from the movie, read excerpts from the book, discuss and enjoy a snack. This month's selection is Coraline by Neil Gaiman. TEENS Teen Book Club: Thursday, November 7' from 6:00-7:00pm For 6th through 12`h graders only. Come discuss your thoughts about the book and enjoy some snacks at each meeting. This month's selection is The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton. Japanimation Club: Thursday, November 14' from 6:00-7:00pm For 6th through 12`h graders only. Come celebrate all things Japan, watch some anime and enjoy some snacks. ADULTS Cupcake Challenge: Saturday, October 19" 2:00pm Learn cupcake decorating tips from Hands On Design Cakes, and then put your creativity to the test with a design challenge.
