Board Liaison Rachel Orozco called the meeting to order at 7:03pm. The following Library Board members were present: Juan M. Azcarate III, Janice Borland, Kenneth Cash, Rosalynn Davis, Carla McCullough, Jesse Meason, & Rachel Orozco, Board Liaison. Members absent included: Arthur Borgemenke. Consider and act upon approval of the Minutes of the June 10,2019 Library Board Meeting. Board Action: The Library Board Minutes of Monday,June 10, 2019 were unanimously approved as presented. 2. Nominate and vote on a Library Board Chair and Vice Chair Board Action: Jesse Meason nominated Janice Borland as Library Board Chair. Kenneth Cash seconded the motion. A vote was taken and the motion carried unanimously. Janice Borland nominated Jesse Meason as Vice Chair. Kenneth Cash seconded the motion.A vote was taken and the motion carried unanimously. REGULAR AGENDA—DISCUSSION ITEMS 1. Library Budget FY 20 Update: Rachel provided the Board with a current update on the Library's FY 20 budget. The Library did not receive any questions from the City Manager, so we Minutes September 9,2019 Library Advisory Board Page 1 will likely get approval on our budget requests for the year. The City Council will meet to vote on adopting the budget tomorrow. Rachel provided the Board with an overview of the library's year- end accomplishments and programs and the Board discussed. 2. Library Policies on Webpage: This item was tabled until next month's meeting, scheduled for October 14, since there are new members who could not be present for the discussion. STAFF REPORTS Up-Coming Library Programs: YOUTH SERVICES - CHILDREN LEGO League: Tuesday, September 10`h or,Thursday, September 12th from 3:30-4:30pm For 1"through 4th graders. Come build with the library's LEGO collection on a specific theme each month. We read a book that explores the theme and inspires ideas for building. Held in the Storytime Room. September's theme is "Don't Bug Me!" (Insects). Voyagers: 3rd Grade Learning Club: Thursday, September 19`h from 3:30-4:30pm Each month we explore a different topic and participate in a hands-on activity. September's challenge is the "Egg Drop Challenge: Learn About Gravity, Force&Acceleration". TEENS Japanimation Club: Thursday, September 12th from 6:00-7:00pm For 6th through 12th graders only. Come celebrate all things Japan, watch some anime and enjoy some snacks. Held in the Storytime Room. ADULTS A Royal Visit to Downton: Tuesday, September 10`h na,6:30pm The king and queen's arrival sets the stage for the new Downton Abbey film. Explore with author Lorraine Heath what such an occasion would mean for the noble household, its servants, and the local community in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Arabic Calligraphy: Saturday, September 21st n, 10:00am Renowned artist Hina Chaudhry will teach about the background and history of Arabic calligraphy while participants create their own works of art to take home. DIY Day Spa: Saturday, September 2151 * 2:00pm Make your own bath bombs and facial mask in this hands-on workshop. AARP Tax Assistance: The library is looking for volunteers to provide tax assistance for seniors. AARP will train the volunteers, who will provide income tax assistance at the library.
