A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
WYLIE, TEXAS, ADOPTING AN OFFICIAL CITY OF WYLIE
SEAL DEPICTING WYLIE'S RICH HISTORY OF ITS
FOUNDING ON THE GULF, COLORADO AND SANTA FE
RAILWAY AND INCORPORATION IN 1887.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Wylie, Texas has investigated and determined
that it would be advantageous and beneficial to adopt a new official seal for the City of Wylie; and
WHEREAS, the seal is the legal symbol that documents have been executed by the Mayor or
City Manager and made part of the attesting by the City Secretary; and
WHEREAS, the City Seal is affixed to all permanent documents such as Ordinances,
Resolutions, Minutes, proclamations, contracts, and other legal documents distributed to other
jurisdictions and governmental entities, including interlocal agreements; and
WHEREAS, the City Seal is a unique mark that sets the City of Wylie apart from other cities
and promotes a sense of nostalgia and pride; and
WHEREAS, in 1886 the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway laid tracks a half mile north
of the original town site. That same year Nickelville moved to take advantage of the railroad and
named their new location Wylie, in honor of W. D. Wylie, a right-of-way agent for the railroad; and
WHEREAS, the design focuses on the rich history of Wylie and its incorporation in 1887.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF WYLIE, TEXAS:
Section 1: The City Council has determined that a City Seal of the City of Wylie be adopted
and shown herewith as Exhibit "A" reflecting its incorporation in 1887 and Wylie's rich history of
its founding on the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway.
DULY PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Wylie, Texas, this
the 9th day of December, 2008.
