Brad Boozer seconded the motion to accept and place on file first quarter statistical information for shelter operations. A vote was taken and the motion passed unanimously. DISCUSSION ITEMS • Discussion regarding shelter events and status first quarter. (S. Patton, ASAB Board Member) Shelia Patton reports 6 sterilization transports for public access from Wylie Animal Control for residents to low cost animal care providers. Two low cost vaccination clinics held at the City of Wylie Animal Control during evening hours to provide residents access to low cost vaccinations, heartworm testing and preventative medication. Residents can comply with registration of pets as two staff members as well as veterinarian and vet assistant are on site. Five animals have been placed into foster care programs. Volunteers and service workers have logged 47 hours. Twenty six animals received services through the pre-adoption sterilization program. Seven additional stray animals received vet care for injuries. Staff have completed three tours pre-established. Patton reports related to board areas of insight and advice of budget requests. We have requested a video access unit for areas of the shelter. The facility currently does not have security measures in place. Without video surveillance there is no way to gather crucial evidence of events occuring and no deterrent to possibly prevent negative events. Potential adopters are unable to stay out of physical sight of staff due to inability to assist if needed and/or ensure all safety precautions are followed during visits. Staff does not have the ability to see blind rooms such as state rabies quarantine housing aggressive animals until the door to the area is opened leading to potential injury and exposure from escaped animals. Loading and unloading zone is in blind area and outside the egress area of the main building to the adoption building. Visitors can be potentially exposed to aggressive, injured or sick animals due to the inability of staff or service workers to see the area to know ACO has arrived until the door has been opened. Minutes May 13,2020 Animal Shelter Advisory Board Page 2 ADJOURNMENT Motion was made by David Dahl and seconded by Dr. Brad Abraham to adjourn the meeting. With no further business before the board, consensus of the board was to adjourn at 6:58 pm.
