Board Liaison, Rachel Orozco called the meeting to order at 7:00pm. The following Library Board members were present: Juan M. Azcarate III, Arthur Borgemenke, Kenneth Cash, Carla McCullough, Irene Chavira& Rachel Orozco, Board Liaison. Members absent: Janice Borland, Rosalynn Davis. No citizens were present at the meeting. PRESENTATION No presentations were given at the meeting. ACTION ITEMS 1. Consider and act upon approval of the Minutes of the February 10, 2020 Library Board Meeting. Board Action: Arthur Borgemenke made a motion to approve the Library Board Minutes of Monday, February 10, 2020 as presented. Juan Azcarate seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously. 2. Consider and act upon approval of a Vice-Chair for the Library Board. Kenneth Cash made a motion to nominate Juan Azcarate as the new Vice-Chair for the Library Board. Arthur Borgemenke seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously. REGULAR AGENDA—DISCUSSION ITEMS 1. Technology Upgrades Review: Rachel reviewed the following current and potential technology upgrades for the library. The Board discussed and reviewed the list of upgrades: a. Book Sorter: the library is asking to upgrade its current book sorter to a new version in the up-coming FY 21 budget cycle. The current sorter is nearing a decade of use. Minutes March 9, 2020 Library Advisory Board Page 1 b. Integrated Library System (ILS): the library is upgrading its ILS this weekend. Most of the changes are with cataloging. The changes will also make it easier for patrons to create online accounts, as well as apply for library cards online. c. cloudLibrary: the library is looking into changing from the OverDrive platfoun to cloudLibrary for its digital collection. d. Self-Check Kiosks: the library will be installing upgraded self-check kiosks with larger screens that allow for advertising of things such as library collections and programs. As soon as the ILS upgrade is complete (see above),the new kiosks can be installed. STAFF REPORTS Up-Coming Library Programs: YOUTH SERVICES Children Professor Pop's Outdoor Bubble Show: Tuesday,March 10 (ci 10:15am All ages welcome. Giant bubbles,bubble clusters and bubble themed skits. Outside behind the library. Spring Wing Fling: Wednesday,March 11 (a,3:00pm For 4th-6th graders only.Personalize a planter,build a butterfly and explore insects and birds. Online registration required. Kids Winter Reading Challenge: December 16—March 14 For kids in Kindergarten—5th grade.Pick up a log at the Children's Desk and complete the reading challenge for a prize. Teens Teen LEGO Mindstorms Workshop: Thursday,March 12 from 2:00-3:30pm or 3:30-5:00pm For 6th-12th graders only. Learn the basics of engineering and coding with our LEGO Mindstorms kits in this hands-on workshop. Online registration required. Teen Winter Reading Challenge: December 16—March 14 For 6th-12th graders only. Teens may pick four different reading "options" from twelve different choices.
