Regular City Council Meeting
February 12, 1974
The City Council met in regular session at 7:00 PM on February 12, 1974,
in City Hall with the following present: Mayor Hackler, Aldermen Thomas,
Boyd, Butler, Dodd and Christopher. City Manager Woodard, Chief of Police ;
Blanks, and City Secy. Gallagher. The meeting was called to order by
Mayor Hackler.
Kirby Wester met with Council for permission to put a trailer house
on his lot on S. Third Street until he could sell it. Motion by Ald.
Thomas and seconded by Ald. Butler to deny this request. Motion carried.
Motion by Ald. Butler and seconded by Ald. Thomas to call City Election
for April 6, 1974, with Emma Addington as Judge and she is to select her
help. All Ayes.
City Manager Woodard gave a review of the First Quarter Budget Report
to Council.
The 15" Sewer line repairs and financing was discussed. After a lengthy
discussion, motion was made by Ald. Christopher and seconded by Ald. Boyd
to ask City' s Engineers to do a study and ask for their recommendations.
All Ayes.
Motion by Ald. Dodd and seconded by Ald. Thomas to refund Mrs. Ethel
Hall ' s 1973 tax assessed in error for the $3,000.00 exemption. All Ayes.
Motion by Ald. Dodd and seconded by Ald. Thomas to approve minutes and
expenditures for the month of January. Motion carried.
Motion by Ald. Butler and seconded by Ald. Dodd to appoint Carolyn
Neighbors on Library Board to replace Ann Martin. All Ayes.
Motion by Ald. Butler and seconded by Ald. Dodd to accept payments on
Hospital taxes with no penalty and interest charge. All Ayes.
City Mgr. reported to Council of the purchase of a 1973 John Deer Back
Hoe Machine in the amount of $8500.00 with a trade in of $1500.00. A
balance of $7000.00 to be paid 10 payments of $750.00 and one' at
$277.75 including interest.
