06-10-1975 (City Council) Minutes 44 Regular City Council Meeting June 10, 1975 The City Council met in regular session at 7:00 PM on June 10, 1975 in .7 the City Hall. Present for the meeting were the following: Mayor Don Thomas, Aldermen R. C. Dodd, Dwayne Boyd, William Martin and Stan Shively City Manager Dennis Woodard and Chief Blanks. Absent were Alderman Kenneth Nall and City Secretary Doris Wilson. Mayor Thomas called the meeting to order and asked the Council to consider the minutes of May and expenditures to be paid in June. Alderman Stan Shively moved the approval of the minutes and expenditures. Second by Alderman William Martin. All Ayes. Jim Taylor, District Manager for Texas Power and Light, appeared before the Council to present information concerning a requested rate increase for electric service. The increase would be 11% for the overall service area for T. P. & L. and was required due to construction of new lignite fueled plants and the increased cost of natural gas fuel. The Council requested more information be supplied to them and approved calling a public hearing on June 24, 1975, at 7:00 PM in the City Hall. Alderman Martin made a motion to appoint Jerry Shaffer, John Yeager, and Wilma Dean as members of the Board of Equalization and set the meeting date for June 28, 1975, at 9:00 AM in the City Hall. Alderman Shively seconded the motion and it passed with all ayes. Ordinance 75-6, setting new fees for water and sewer taps within the City was discussed. The increase charges would more nearly cover the cost of making the taps and were comparable to those of the surrounding cities. Alderman Martin moved the approval of the ordinance, second by Alderman Boyd and all Ayes. A review of city projects presently underway was given by the City Manager. Also discussed were street repairs needed, with the possibilty of a bond program to include streets and a water tower. Mayor Thomas requested a schedule of street repairs based on priority be submitted to the Council. Danny Clark gave a Fire Department report and requested funds to send. three men to a fire school to be held at Texas A & M. The cost of $500 was over the budgeted amount. Alderman Dodd made a motion to provide the extra funds. Alderman Shively seconded the motion. All Ayes.
