SPECIAL CITY COUNCIL MEETING
OCTOBER 22, 1981
6:00 P.M.
The meeting was called to order by Mayor John W. Akin. A quorum was
present and notice of the meeting has been posted for the time and
manner required by law. Those in attendance were Mayor John W. Akin,
Mayor Pro Tem William Martin, Council members Geline Dodd, Reta Allen,
and Bill Berry. Councilman Harold Eavenson was not present. Also
present were City Manager Lee Vickers, City Secretary Gail Wallace,
and Assistant Fire Chief Larry Allen.
Invocation was given by Mayor Akin.
The City Manager requested authorization to send out invitations to
bid for the sale of the old elevated water tank. The cost to the
City to paint and put a fence around the tower in accordance with
instructions from the insurance company would be approximately $13,000.
Therefore, if the City could sell the tank for $10 - $12,000 or
negotiate a price, it would be to the City's advantage. Motion was
made by Bill Berry, seconded by Geline Dodd, all in favor to authorize
the City Manager to advertise the sale of the old elevated water tank.
The City Manager advised the Council that he had met with Geline Dodd •,
and Reta Allen, as agreed in meeting of October 13, regarding the
purchase of a Class A, Emergency One fire engine. The main concern
regarding the purchase was a place to house the extra engine. Larry
Allen advised that he had the promise of enough cement to pour the
slab for another building. Also the possibility of raising the doors
on the present station was discussed. This was approved by consensus.
After some discussion, the purchase of a 1980 Emergency One Class "A"
pumper from Superior Southwest, Inc. for the price of $53,000. was
approved with motion made by Reta Allen, seconded by William Martin,
all in favor.
The City Manager advised that the Fire Department should go through
policy procedures by requesting a purchase order if they wish the
City to purchase hose, etc. for them. The Mayor approved reimbursement
of an invoice for hose purhcased by the Fire Department in the amount
of $380.00.
There was a brief discussion regarding the Christmas parade. The Mayor
advised the City would pay for the tree and decorations if no other
donations were received. Larry Allen agreed that the Fire Department
would help put up and take down decorations.
There being no further business, meeting was adjourned.
