07-06-1982 (City Council) Minutes 7() CITY COUNCIL MEETING SPECIAL CALL SESSION JULY 6, 1982 7:00 P.M. The Wylie City Council met in special call session at 7:00 p.m. on July 6, 1982 in the Council Chambers. Mayor Squires presided. A quorum was present and notice of the meeting had been posted for the time and in the manner required by law. Those in attendance were the Mayor, Mayor Pro Tem William Martin, Council members Reta Allen, Percy Simmons and Geline Dodd. Council- man Eavenson was absent. Also present were Brian Cowan, W.A. Allen, Mickey Foster, Harold Spence, Melvin St. John, Harry Tibbals, Del Wilson, David Engleman and Bill Page. Invocation was given by Mayor Squires. Emergency repairs to the sanitary sewer lift station in Wylwood Addition was discussed. The electrical wiring inside the station is exposed and dangerous. The second (backup) pump has been cannibalized in order to keep the main pump working. The main pump has gone out a couple of times during the week causing raw sewerage to be dumped out in the open creating a health hazard for the public. Brian Cowan proposed purchasing one new pump and repair the main pump to use as a backup. Also to repair the electrical wiring. Another option would be to rebuild what we have. A third option would be to purchase two new pumps which could be used in our present lift station but would also convert to the new lift station which is planned to be installed in the near future. The problem with rebuilding the present pumps is the cost of the parts plus the length of time to get them. Mr. Bill Page, a specialist in lift stations and sewer controls suggested the City purchase two new submersible pumps which could be used now and could also be converted to the new lift station to be built. The price of the new pumps would run approximately $12,000. To rebuild the existing pumps would cost around $8,000. W. A. Allen advised Council the second pump could be repaired in order that a backup pump would be available and that the electrical wiring could be repaired. He also advised that a dehumidifier was available for use. He also stated these repairs should not run over $500.00. Mickey Foster was authorized to repair the electrical panel and repairs were authorized to the existing pumps. A $600 limit was put on these repairs. Motion was made by Councilwoman Dodd, seconded by Councilwoman Allen, all in favor. Also the installation of the new lift station was instructed to be expedited. Melvin St. John advised Council that he, Harry Tibbals and Harold Spence were willing to contribute $20,000 toward the installation of the new lift station.
