05-14-1937 (City Council) Minutes May 14 — 1937 The City Concil of the Town of Wylie Tex met in regular session in the City Hall with all members present Except J. W. Rees. After some discussions there was a Motion& Second to write J. W. Rees in the Minutes as an appointee Mayor protein last regular meeting nite by the Mayor "Pitts" But by mistake was not included in the Minutes of Apr 15-1937 Meeting. Motion Carried. Motion & Second Minutes of last meeting be accepted as read, Less the clauses struck out by the Mayor. Clauses # 4-5-6-7-8- page# 126. Motion Carried. Motion & Second we reenact the Motions #4-5-6-7-8 page#126 Vetoed by the Mayor last meeting nite Apr 15-37 And declare an emergency that they may take effect at once Votes for the Motion was C. R. Smith, Fay Moore- A Brown— G. P. Maynard. Motion Carried. Motion & Second we sustain the disapproval of Jess Calloway's Appointment as Fire marshal & Treasurer and water collector as a Violation of the Anti-neptism laws, and declare an emergency and ask the Mayor to make other appointments for Maynard- Smith-Brown-Agarest, Fay Moore. Motion Carried. Motion & Second to appoint E. Housewright as Fire marshall if he will accept. Motion Carried. Motion & Second to make Jess Calloway Treasurer of the city of wylie at a salary of $800 Eight& no/100 per month and will draw no salary as city clerk. Motion Carried. Motion & Second to appoint J. R. Jones water collector at a salary of$100 (Ten) per month, failed to carry Votes for him was 2. Votes against him was Three. May 14-1937 Continued Motion & Second to retain Jess Calloway as water Collector temporialy. Motion Carried. Motion & Second city hold J. A. Hammett responsible for $15.40 cost on J. T. Hutchins tax suit for failure to add this amount when taxes was paid. Motion & Second to raise minum water rate to 2000 gallons instead of 1000 gal. Motion Carried. Motion & Second A. Brown use the gravel the city has on hand to patch the street with also five men. to work two days each. Motion Carried. Motion & Second City have oil poured in the far end of the Man holes in water mains as a means of fighting mesqutoes. Motion Carried. Motion & Second the city sell Ray L. Pitts Six Iron Barrels at 80 cents each. Motion Carried. Motion & Second the Bills be allowed paid as read Except J.A. Hammett bill of$7.05 and city give him credit on tax error of$15.40 for same.
