08-31-1984 (City Council) Minutes CITY COUNCIL CALLED MEETING - MINUTES AUGUST 31 , 1984 6:00 P. M. The Wylie City Council met in a called session on Friday, August 31 , 1984 at 6:00 P. M. in the Council Chambers at City Hall . Mayor Akin presided. A quorum was present and notice of the meeting had been posted for the time and in the manner required by law. Those in attendance were Mayor John Akin, Mayor Pro Tem Hughes, Councilmembers William Martin, Percy Simmons, Gail Wallace and Cleo Adams, City Manager Gus Pappas, City Secretary Carolyn Jones. Mayor Akin called the meeting to order and stated the purpose for this meeting was to call for a vote on the tax increase and for public hearing on tax rate. City Manager Gus Pappas said the tax rate should remain the same as last years rate which is 49¢ per $100.00. This does bring an increase to the tax levy due to the growth of the City. Since there is an increase the law requires public hearings. Mayor Akin called for a vote from each Councilmember by name on the tax rate increase, the votes are as follows: Mayor Pro Tem Hughes - Yes Councilmembers Simmons - Yes Martin - Yes Adams - Yes Wallace - Yes The schedule for the hearings on tax rate and all phases of the City Budget will be: First public hearing - September 11 , 1984 Second public hearing - September 25, 1984 Sign Ordiances adopting same - September 25, 1984 Motion was made by Mayor Pro Tem Hughes to adjourn.
