JOINT WORKSESSION WITH WYLIE INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT
OCTOBER 19, 1992
CALL TO ORDER
The meeting convened with the following Councilmembers present: Jay Davis,
A.L"Bud"Naish, Ortie Messenger,Jim Swartz, and Steve Wright. School Board members
present were: Annette Naish, Bill Collins, Choya Tapp, I and Brune, and Brenda
Burroughs.
SWEARING IN OF NEW BOARD MEMBER CHOYA TAPP
Choya Tapp took the oath of office and was seated as a regular member of the Wylie
Independent School District Board of Trustees.
PARTNERS IN EDUCATION PROGRAM/CITYADOPTION OF WYLIE HIGH SCHOOL
Wylie City Manager Steve Norwood outlined proposed local government education
program for the High School including a student government day, a job fair, a speakers
bureau on local government processes and miscellaneous dassroom exercises. He urged
student and faculty participation in the Citizens Police Academy,volunteered city employees
for paging contests or emceeing government related programs and offered City Hall as a
location for student displays.
Superintendent Don Whitt discussed the importance of city government and school
district cooperation and stated that students would be encouraged to participate in local
government activities both on and off campus. He suggested that the city call on high school
music groups to perform at city functions and urged the city to solicit his help in involving
students in special projects and events.
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
The City Council and School Board Trustees discussed joint economic development
efforts. The City Manager discussed the value of the Wylie I.S.D. in attracting industry to
the City of Wylie. The two groups agreed to work jointly towards developing economic
development incentives.
