01-09-1912 (City Council) Minutes Wylie, Texas, I/9/I2 Mr, H. P. Howery, Wylie, Texas. Dear Sir: The following powers and duties are prescribed by the revised Civil & Criminal Ordinances of the town Of Wylie, Texas for the City Marsayhl and unless the same are complied with under the law we will not be allowed to pay your salary. I. The marshal shal be ex-officio sergent-at-arms of the town council, and shal either by person or deputy, attend all of its meetings upon the request of the mayor he shal notify each alderman, secretary and town attorney, of the time and subject of the call meetings of the council. 2. I shal be the duty of the town marshal to execute all processes forthwith and make due returns on same. 3. The marshal shal be active in quelling riots, disordrers and disturbances of the peace within the corporate limits of Wylie, Texas. 4. Attendance upon the meetings, the marshal or his deputy shal attend upon the corporation court while in session, shal preserve order there in, and shal properly and faithfully execut all writs and processes issued from said court. 5. The marshal shal make a report to the council at the first regular meeting showing all casestried before the recorder?s court since the day of the last report upon which judgment has been rendered, read powers and duties of the city marshal on pag 10 civil & Criminal ordinances of Wylie,Texas. 6. We futher requ3st that you familiarize your self in the laws and ordinances for the government of the town, and shall at all times be vigilant and active in causing them to be enforce throughout the limits of the corporation. 7. The marshal of the town shall be ex-officio chief of police and may appoint one or more deputies shall only be validupo the approval of the council, but such deputy shall receive no compensation of the town. 8. examination of flues. It shall be the duty of the town marshall of any and all flues that he may have cause to think do not come under the requirements set forth in this ordinance. On account of the dangerous disease known as Menigitis abroad in the country. We especially request that you carry out the following ordinance at once: It shall be the duty of the town marshall to haul away the rubbi trash, pieces of boxes, papers, tin boxes, cans, bottles, offal and other refuse of every description Sec. 2 page 80 of Civ & Crim. Or. Provides that when said marshall fails to remove the same when ordered by the street committee he shall be fined in any some not less than one nor more than ten, Dollare. 12. Taxes. The corporation tax shall be assessed and collected by the marshall, and if the same be not voluntarily paid he shall have the power to make collection in the manner and with like effect as prescribed in chapter 6 of title 18 of the revised Statutes of texas applying to cities & Towns. The marshall shall receive for his services as tax assessor and collector 3% of all taxes assessed 4% of all taxes collected.
