02-03-1926 (City Council) Minutes Feb 3 1926
Council met in regular session with the following present—G. W. Housewright, Mayor,
Loyd Neilon, C. J. Marrs, John Houston, J. H. Finch, L. F. Daniel Aldermen. W. F.
Duncan, Atty., L. F. Hughes, clerk, J. W. Bradley, City Peace Officer, W. H. Rucker, D.
Story, Clarence Jennings and C. A. Stone.
Mr. Stone asked permission of the council to move the Colson Bldg. on the corner
immediately south of H H Co. Store to a location farther back on the same lot for the
purpose of making room for building a gasoline & oil filling station. This request brought
up the question of moving or repairing or improving bldgs. wthin the established fire
limit zone. Considerable discussion was had and the fire limit ordinances of 1904 and
1911 were reread. It was moved and seconded in regular order that Mr. Stone be granted
permission to move the building to a minimum distance of 65 feet from the property of
Mr. Rucker, providing that he and Mr. Rucker reach an agreement of satisfaction between
themselves. Motion carried.
Mr. Stone asked permission to erect a gasoline and oil filling station on the corner from
which he is moving the Colson Bldg. It was moved and seconded that Mr. Stone be given
permission to erect building under supervision of the street committee. Motion carried.
It was moved and seconded that we accept agreement with St. L. & SW Ry. in regard to
street lights. Motion carried.
The following accounts were approved and ordered paid= Southwest Meter Box Co.,
$56.25, for 25 meter boxes = Graf-Barton Signal Co., $30.00, for traffic signals=Hersey
Mfg. Co, $93.25, for one-half our account on water meters=H. Hammett Co., $82.30, on
account= and $3.00 for fire prevention literature in connection with fire instruction in the
public schools.
Citizens to be notified that it will be necessary to have more money in order to keep the
city policeman, as the funds that was raised for this purpose has been exhausted.
The council recessed until called to order by the Mayor.
