Carolyn one , ity Secretary Posted this theZ?,41 day of C-/72a 198 at Mayor Chuck Trimble has proclaimed the week of May 29th through June 4 , 1988 as BIRMINGHAM LAND TRUST WEEK. The trust was established over forty-eight (48) years ago by T. F. Birmingham and his wife Hattie Birmingham in memorial for their son, Franklin Ovid Birmingham who passed away in 1911 and is buried in the Wylie Cemetery. The Birminghams wanted to provide enhanced educational programs in the Wylie Schools primarily in the manual trades and home economics departments. They later established a smaller second trust to enhance the programs offered by the school in advanced American History and advanced Chemistry. The trust is governed by the Mayor and one member from each of four churches, The First Baptist Church, the First Christian Church, The First United Methodist Church and St . Anthony Catholic Church. The original trust assets were in the form of farm land, however , the trust was amended and allowed to invest the corpus of the assets in whatever markets would provide the greatest return on the assets. The Board is committed to the active management and building of the trust net worth so that it can provide for further enhancements to the schools programs. From reviewing the trust documents the Board feels the philosophy of the Birminghams was to give Wylie the resource of trained young people in manual and technical skills. They are looking for ways to ensure that this philosophy is carried out so that the Wylie Community is made a better place to work and live. Though the trust was originally funded by the Birminghams, since the trust is a not-for-profit organization, people of the Community are able to make tax deductible charitable contributions to the Trust. If anyone is interested in any information concerning the Trust, the Mayor or Tommy Sessums, the Treasurer, are available to answer questions . r • • r + • • 1; 1; flu rxaø t rortamattoin • ., BIRMINGHAM LAND TRUST WEEK WHEREAS, T.
