Amy Nutz states that her place of employment has invested in shade sails for outside areas to provide shade during hot weather for animals being walked. She feels that this would be a good resolution to the issue of lack of shaded areas in the play yard area located behind the animal shelter. Nutz will forward information to Patton regarding where purchase of shade sails were Minutes—August 24, 2011 Wylie Animal Shelter Advisory Board Page 1 made. Patton will visit the facility to view the sails. Patton will also check with City of Wylie to obtain information regarding permit requirements for such sails. Dr. Chuck Kerin states that this will possibly be a good resolution as well because the sails are removable and replaceable they will probably not require permits and when weathered can be replaced efficiently verses having a permanent shaded area built. Patton states that the animal shelter has requested with yearly budjet to increase the part time kennel attendant position to a full time position. David Lewis states that if the position increase is not approved he may have additional ideas of how to get the additional help needed. Patton states that we will revisit this issue if needed pending the outcome of the decision made by the city council. B. Discuss volunteer service hour programs. Patton has stated that the volunteer program currently in place at the animal shelter is fulfilling the needs of the facility at this time.
