Subject: Bid Award- Asphalt Overlay
Date: July 13, 1990
Three of the ten prospective bidders who received invitations to bid
on the asphalt overlay portion of the street reconstruction program
responded with bids. The tabulation is as follows.

Glen Thurman, Inc. $3.25 per sq.yd. $64,000.00
APAC-Texas $3. 37 per sq.yd. $63,841 .28
JRJ Paving $4.57 per sq.yd. $86,574.08
The lump sum total in the Glen Thurman bid is padded to allow for
contingencies (i .e. additional square yards over and above what
was estimated in the bid invitation) . Paul Beavers has assured me
that the original estimate of 18,944 square yards is an accurate
measurement of the surface to be overlaid.
Recommendation: Award the bid for 18,944 square yards of asphalt
overlay to Glen Thurman, Inc. , based on the unit price bid of
$3.25 per square yard of 2" compacted overlay. Total cost for
for all five streets, assuming an area of 18,944 square yards,
would be $61,568.00. Should additional move-ins be required,
the cost per square yard would increase to $3. 30.
