Board Action
A motion was made by Amy Nutz to place into public record the statistical report for the
reporting period of January 1, 2015 thru March 31. 2015. Dr Chuck Kerin seconded to place
into public record the statistical report for the reporting period of January 1, 2015 thru March 31.
2015. A vote was taken and the motion passed unanimously
DISCUSSION ITEMS
3. Discuss information regarding the statistical report provided for first quarter of
2015. (S. Patton, ASAB Board Member)
Patton reported that the new software is assisting greatly with the statistical information. The
staff is still on a learning curve with the capabilities of the new software. The report includes all
animals impounded by animal control. Patton would like to kncw if there are questions regarding
the provided information.
David Lewis wants to know what safe keeping of an animal means. Patton reports that safe
keeping means these could be ongoing cases. Animal Control is a division of the police
department they are responsible for the care of any animals that may be left behind due to
arrest, detainment, protective services cases or other circumstances.
David Dahl would like the meaning of disposition. Patton reports this is the final outcome of how
an animal has left the facility. To include euthanasia, adoption, died at birth, relocation, returned
to owner or rescued.
Dr. Chuck Kerin would like explanation of relocated wildlife as to where they go. Patton reports
that they are relocated to habitat areas and possibly rehabbers depending on the condition of
the animals. Dr. Chuck Kerin was unaware that animal control deals with so many wildlife
animals.
David Dahl would like to know how an animal is considered feral. Patton explains that there
were a total of 46 trapped wild animals being feral cats. Of those whom were trapped 22 were
deemed adoptable meaning the staff was able to work with the animal to place into adoption
center. Just because an animal is trapped does not mean that staff immediately deems it as
non-adoptable.
Shelia Patton would like to know if the report is inclusive of what the board as a whole is looking
for. Is there more information the report should include? The board members expressed that
the report is inclusive and is a good report.
Patton states that a report will be created for the next meeting and will include the quarter of
which no meeting is held.
4. Discussion regarding progress toward establishment of foster program. (S. Patton,
ASAB Board Member)
Shelia Patton reported a focus group has created cat manuals and the dog manual is almost
complete. Patton reports that names and numbers are already being taken for interested
parties.
Patton has expressed that time has been weighed for the foster program as far as staffing
having to home check the animals. Fosters will be residents of Wylie. The time to do checks

and pre-home visits is tremendously less than that time Ft takes at the facility for staff to care for
the animals in need of special care.
Patton has expressed that when budget requests begin that the first visit vet care for foster
animals will be requested for approval as part of the medica 1?udget.
This program has been presented to City Manager Mindy Manson along with a flow chart and ail
information as to the direction the group is heading. Lt. Mike Atkison was also present for the
presentation.
David Lewis would like to know if he can bring anything from Operation Kindness. He reports
that the foster program Operation Kindness had been working on has gone in a different
direction from assisting animal shelters to a women's shelter Lewis will bring the foster
program information from Operations Kindness to Patton for overview of how their program is
designed.
ADJOURNMENT
Motion was made by Amy Nutz and seconded by Dr. Chuck Kerin to adjourn meeting. With no
further business before the board, consensus of the board was to adjourn at 6:53 pm.
