05-02-1923 (City Council) Minutes WYLIE, TEXAS May 2 1923 The council met in Regular Session at the regular meeting place; the City Hall, at 7:30 pm with all members present vig: Geo W Housewright, Mayor= CJ Marrs, Chas L Hillis, EH Daniel, Jeff Knight and D Story, Councilmen, L Fay Hughes Secy, WF Duncan City Atty. The Council was called to order by the Mayor, and the reading of the minutes of preceding meeting was dispensed with until after business had been transacted with Messra McCoy, Darden and Apperson, representatives of the Town Power & Light Co. The floor was then given to the gentlemen just mentioned, who proceeded to outline their plan and explain their contact under which the above mentioned company proposed to furnish the City of Wylie power to operate its pumping plant and electric current for maintaining Street lights. These gentlemen offered the City a guaranteed price of not over $.02 per kilowatt hour for power for pumping purposes and a flat-rate of 1.00 per month for 60 C.P. and 1.50 per month for 100 C.P. Street lights. The Council advised the TP&L Co that their proposition would be taken into consideration and that a reply to Same would be forthcoming shortly. An Ordinance was passed by the Council granting the Secretary the authority to appoint one or more deputies to assist him in the work of assessing the City Taxes, where upon the Secretary immediately appointed EL Daniel, who was duly sworn in, after accepting the appointment. The matter of purchasing pumping machinery, air-compressor, motor Etc was then introduced by the Mayor. Motion was immediately made by Alderman Chas L Hillis and seconded by Alderman CJ Marrs that the Mayor and Secretary be directed to sign orders for the machinery, a list of which is as follows: See copy of order which is duly on file = <Air Compressor= pump & 2 motors> <There is yet to be purchased on 25 HP motor for pulling air-compressor.>the motion carried, by all members voting = AYE. Communication was then read from Mr Perry O'Neil in regard to his commission on the amount of expenditures that had been made to Date on water system supplies. The Commission amounted to $777.9s and after examination of the contract with Mr. O'Neil to determine whether or not this was an excessive amount at this time; a motion was duly made and seconded that this amount be paid to the Engineer, it having been found that this amount was due. The motion carried. The Council then recessed in order to have time to study the contracts with the Texas Power& Light Co.
