07-11-1923 (City Council) Minutes (Note: The city Street lights were turned on for first time at 7:40 pm July 13th 1923) JUL 111923 The Council met in called session at 7:30 pm with the following present: Jeff Knight Act Mayor, CJ Marrs, D Story, EH Daniel and LF Hughes. Mr. JC Spurgin, representing the Wylie Commercial Club, appeared before the Council seeking aid and permission to build a kitchenette on rear of City Hall for the convience of the ladies when serving dinner Etc to the Com Club and to furnish more room in the Hall for these occasions. Motion was immediately made and duly Seconded that the Com club be permitted to construct the kitchenette. Motion carried. There being no further business, the council adjourned. Approved: Mayor 8/8/23 L Fay Hughes Secy (Note=The City Street lights were turned on at 7:40 pm July 13th 1923) <Not read in minutes> WYLIE, TEXAS AUG— 1 1923 WYLIE, TEXAS The council met in Called Session in the City Atty's office and was called to order at 6:30 pm by the Mayor with all members present. The mayor stated that the meeting had been called for the purpose of considering making a payment to McKee Drilling Co on their contract for drilling the water well, a dpth of 2500 feet having been reached, and to authorize the drilling to continue until the paluxey sand was reached and drilled thru or to a depth of 2800 feet as per contract with the drilling company. The question of making a payment to the Drilling co at this time met with disapproval, as the contract with this company was construct to mean that the well must be completed; that is, cased off an tested etc., or drilled to a depth of 2800 feet before any payment of money is made. Mr Weeks, Mr Hightower and Mr. McKee, representatives of the Drilling Co were then called in and advised by the mayor of the councils action on their request for a payment at this time. Mr. Weeks accepted the decision agreeably, but commented that he had hoped to receive at least a part of his money. That he was going to make the city a good well if it could be done within the 2800 feet. Motion was then duly made and seconded that the Drilling Co be authorized to continue drilling until the paluxey sand is drilled through, or to a depth of 2800 feet. Motion carried.
