07-05-1923 (City Council) Minutes JUL —5 1923
The council met in reg session at 715 pm in the office of Alderman Story and was called to
order by act Mayor Knight, with the following present: Jeff Knight act mayor, CJ Marrs, D
Story EH Daniel Aldermen, E Housewright Special officer, LF Hughes Secy.
The subject of fixing the Speed limit of Motor vehicles within the limit of the City of Wylie
was immediately introduced and after considerable discussion, a motion was made and duly
seconded that the speed limit of all vehicles within the city limits of the City of Wylie Texas be
made 12 miles per hour, effective on and after July 15th 1923. Motion carried. The Street
Committee was instructed to have the proper speed limit signs made, and placed on all roads and
streets leading into the City at the point where such road or street crosses the city limit line.
The Street Committee was also instructed to have turn ports made and placed at street
intersections where the traffic is heaviest and where they thought necessary.
The Street Committee was also instructed to have circulars printed announcing the council's
action regarding the 12 mi speed limit and asking the cooperation of all concerned.
The subject of permitting gasoline and oil filling stations to be placed on the main street of the
town, vig Ballard Ave., was introduced, whereupon the council passed an ordinance on first
reading prohibiting placing gasoline or oil filling tanks on Ballard Ave between Santa fe Depot
and north side of McDonalds Garage. (The reason for this action is to keep the hard surface of
this street from being torn up and abused) See files for Ord:-
A bill of$2.50 favor Mr A Brown for hauling material for the city was allowed and ordered
paid. $1.50 of this amount will be due the City from the Chg. Bridge and Iron works; as this
amount of the above mentioned bill is for hauling a hoisting jack and tools for tower erection=
Same being hauled from freight depot to storage warehouse.
A bill of$1.50 was allowed and ordered paid to E Housewright for having 3 dead animals
hauled from the city.
There being no further business, the council adjourned.
