present: GW Housewright—Mayor= LF Daniel, JH Finch, D Story, CJ Marrs, Aldermen, WF
Duncan Atty—LF Hughes Secy.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
The subject of employing a city policeman was discussed at length. It was made known that
the money with which to pay a City policeman was expected to be raised by popular subscription
by the local business people and others who would donate to this fund. The council was advised
by Mr Earl Hogge over telephone that $800.00 had been collected for account of this fund and
that a total of$1200. had been promised. Upon motion & sec in regular order the council voted
to pay out of the City's fund to the City police fund $20.00 per month. Out of a number of
applications for the position in question, that of Mr. JW Bradley seemed to be the most
favorable. It was decided that an offer of$95.00 per month be made to Mr Bradley to assume
the duties and responsibilities of this office, and Mr Bradley being present at this time informed
the Council that he would accept the proposition, this to be effective immediately, or as soon as
bond and oath of office could be arranged. Bond to be in the amount of$1000.00 and ordinance
to be drawn covering the action taken.
Alderman CJ Marrs, Policeman Bradley and City Pumper Hardy Corzine were appointed a
Committee to attend to setting 24 shade trees on the City's Pump Plant Property.
There being no further business Council adjourned.
