02-13-2019 (Animal Shelter) Minutes IA/ fN Animal Shelter Advisory Board CITY OF WYLIE Minutes Regular Meeting February 13,2019—6:00 p.m. Wylie Municipal Complex—Council Chambers • 300 Country Club Road,Bldg. 100 Wylie,TX 75098 CALL TO ORDER Announce the presence of a Quorum. Brad Boozer called to order the Animal Shelter Advisory Board meeting at 6:02 pm. Board members present: Shelia Patton, David Dahl, Brad Boozer, Dr. Brad Abraham and Amber Porter. Quorum is present. INVOCATION • The invocation was given by David Dahl. • CITIZENS COMMENTS ON NON-AGENDA ITEMS Residents may address Council regarding an item that is not listed on the Agenda. Residents must fill out a non- agenda form prior to the meeting in order to speak. Council requests that comments be limited to three (3)minutes. In addition, Council is not allowed to converse, deliberate, or take action on any matter presented during citizen participation. REGULAR AGENDA 1. Consider and act upon, approval of the Animal Shelter Advisory Board minutes of October 17,2018. (Brad Boozer, ASAB Chair) Board Action A motion was made by Dr. Brad Abraham to accept the Animal Shelter Advisory Board minutes of October 17, 2018 as presented. Amber Porter seconded to accept the Animal Shelter Advisory Board minutes of October 17, 2018 as presented. A vote was taken and the motion passed unanimously. Consider and place on file facility yearly veterinarian inspection. (Brad Boozer, ASAB Chair) Board Action - A motion was made by David Dahl to accept and place on file facility yearly veterinarian inspection. DISCUSSION ITEMS • Discussion regarding shelter events and status fourth quarter. (S. Patton, ASAB Board Member) Shelia Patton reports ten sterilization transports for public access from Wylie Animal Control for residents to low cost animal care provider. Two low cost vaccination clinics held at the City of Wylie Animal Control during evening hours to provide residents access to low cost vaccinations, heartworm testing and preventative medication. Residents can comply with registration of pets as two staff members as well as veterinarian and vet assistant are on site. Ten animals have been placed into foster care program. Volunteers and service workers have logged 188.5 hours. Pet of the week twice monthly with Wylie News is ongoing. Facebook for social media outreach is still maintained and has proved to be an effective mode of communication for lost pets, adoptable animals and information related to the cities pet needs and services. Fourty three animals received services through the pre-adoption sterilization program. Staff have completed six tours pre-established. The facility launched a Home for the Holidays & Thankful Fur Second Chances in effort to find homes for all the waiting animals at facility. The facility is still active with Wylie Raiders program. Davis Intermediate Future Problem Solvers brought 22 students to facility after a donation drive. Boo on Ballard Pet Costume & Library Costume contest was participated in by Animal Control. They are educated regarding in house care and legal aspects of the animal control department. ADJOURNMENT Motion was made by David Dahl and seconded by Dr. Brad Abraham to adjourn meeting.
